This election has been quite the roller coaster with candidates representing parties that don't support them, the ever-increasing use of social media and the plethora of scandals that have followed some candidates. Many feel the pickings have become slim.
Hilary Clinton has seen quite a bit of controversy not only during the 2016 presidential race but throughout her life in the spotlight. From what I have seen, Clinton has been a magnet for negative attention due to her marriage, her emails, or her constant change of heart concerning issues that define America. While I feel she has done great things for women in politics and is a passionate woman, I do not feel she should be our next president.
Many assume women will flock to Hilary because we want representation in the White House. While I do believe it is time a woman is commander-in-chief and I do consider myself a feminist, I do not support Hilary.
To me, being a feminist does not mean I protest all males on the planet. It does not mean I feel women are superior or that I refuse to shave my legs. Being feminist simply means that I believe women are equal to men. We deserve the same opportunities and the same amount of respect a man would receive. Women in our society are forced into a box when we are capable of so much more. This is the reason we make 79 cents to a man's dollar. It's the reason women in sports are highly underpaid for doing the same thing a man does.
Women are often expected to be polite, pretty and not burp in public, while men don't have nearly as high standards to live up to. We have different roles in society when women should be treated the same as men. Because of all these things, I am a feminist through and through.
While Clinton supports a lot of my points and a lot of the things that represent feminism at its core, I do not think she would be a good president. I would love to see a woman in the White House. In fact, it's time we have a woman in the White House, but it shouldn't be Clinton. I do not agree with her politics.
There have been numerous celebrities who have decided to back Hilary; powerful women like Katy Perry or Demi Lovato. While we all have the right to vote for who we believe would be best at the job, I do hope we are looking at more than just the gender of the candidate.
This election, and in any election, we are voting for more than just a figurehead. This is the person we want to run our country, and just because I believe women deserve more opportunities does not mean I will ignore the fact that I do not like much of Clinton's opinions or the way she handles things.
I want very much to see a woman in the Oval Office some day, but I hope it's not Clinton.
