Valentine's Day is similar to New Year's for me, filled with the anxiety of having or not having any plans, the scrambling to make the "perfect" plans, and feeling personally rejected when plans you previously made fall through. All these reasons and more are why I think Valentine's Day is overrated and why it's okay to spend this holiday on your own.
1. Cheap candy
Similar to New Year's, the candy aisle of literally every supermarket in town carries our favorites, at the most discounted prices. Instead of watching the ball drop in our pajamas, this time we can cozy up in those same pajamas and eat all of the dark chocolate truffles our hearts wants.
2. PJs
Speaking of pajamas, what better way to spend a day dedicated to love than spending it the way we love? Cozying up in my favorite discounted onesie honestly screams Valentine's Day to me and it's probably what I'll be doing this year.
3. Wine, wine and then some more wine
Obviously for all of us 21+, chocolate never tastes as good as it does when paired with wine. Barefoot, being my favorite brand, paired with homemade grilled cheese with a side of tomato soup is my definition of a party. Also, not having to share with anyone is a major plus.
4. Galentine's Day
The counterpart to a boyfriend is a girlfriend so spending this Valentine's Day with a bunch of your favorite girls should be music to your ears. Make it into a tradition by inviting everyone over to get dressed together, drink some of the wine I mentioned earlier, and going out together to ring in this festive day of love.
5. Calling your ex
Nothing will make you feel less "you" than going back in time and making use of your ex for one day- a day that should honestly be celebrated as just another day. Your ex should bask in the emptiness that was left by you and your sassy, amazing self.
6. Family
Similar to spending V-Day with girlfriends, spending it with family is just as perfect. Nothing beats the love that exudes from family, especially on this holiday of love.
7. Pamper thyself
Let this day be a day filled with spa treatments, mud masks, and mani-pedis. These three things can also include bubble baths, a new hair color, and that extra massage your manicurist usually tries to bribe you with.
Valentine's Day or Galentine's Day, this day that's literally dedicated to the concept of love, should be celebrated in any which way your heart desires and society shouldn't make you, or myself, feel any less than.
