Nowadays, Tinder has become notorious for being the “hookup app." You left or right swipe (‘nope’ or ‘like’ respectively) the profiles of people within an age and distance range that you can change. If you and someone else have both right swiped on each other's profiles, you’ll ‘match’ and be able to chat.
I’m shamelessly willing to admit that I’ve been using the app – unsuccessfully, I might add. However, I do try to talk to people I run into whenever I’m on campus, because if you know me, you know that I am notoriously single and trying to mingle – albeit a tad shy at times.
I guess it’s reasonable to argue that I’m looking for love in all the wrong places, due to being one of the few users of Tinder looking for a serious relationship. But regardless of whether you’re looking for a one-time fling or a long-lasting partnership, you download an app like this with serious goals in mind.
However, in my experience, a lot of people unintentionally waste the time of others with profiles that make the decision to swipe increasingly difficult.
So now I get to tell you all about the things I can’t stand seeing on Tinder.
10. Photos Of You Vaping
9. “You Have To Message First”
What if I can’t? You probably won’t. We both lose.
8. “I Was Bored So I Made A Tinder”
You’re not even trying? Making a Tinder profile was a hefty decision for me, because I used to hold something against people who used the app.
I wasn’t sure at all if I wanted to try talking to strangers through a mobile app with the prospect of meeting up. But it’s good to know you’re keeping yourself entertained.
7. Profiles With No Description
I don’t want to judge if I’d like you or not by your appearance. I need to have something to work with. What’s your favorite movie? What are your hobbies? Are you currently possessed by any kind of supernatural entity? I’d love to know.
6. “Chances Are I Love My Dog More Than I Love You”
Even if you are joking, how am I supposed to know? What if you actually love your dog more than me? I don’t know how to deal with that – I’m a cat person.
So chances are I love my cymbals more than I’d love you.
6b. “If You Have A Dog I Automatically Like You”
Okay, I can clearly see you’re a dog person. Maybe you should just talk to this guy.
5. Group Photos… They’re Your ONLY Photos
I don’t mind seeing a group photo in your Tinder profile, I have a picture of me and my bandmates. But if every single picture is a group photo, I’m not going to be able to tell which one is you. Okay, I get that you have a social life, that’s cool.
But I’m not hoping to meet up with one person and have four people show up and make me guess which one of you is “Jane." I’m not into those kinds of games.
4. Girls Who Demand Guys Taller Than Six Feet
I won’t lie, I’m just a wee bit salty because I’m only 5’8”, so this always seemed unreasonable to me.
3. “If I Don’t Message Back Quickly…”
If you don’t message back quickly, there’s no point in you being on this app. The fact that you have to tell people that in your profile makes me not want to talk to you in the first place.
Regardless of whether you’re looking for a hookup or an actual relationship on this app, communicating with people in a timely manner is something it demands. I’ve waited five days for girls to respond to messages before choosing to un-match. That ain’t fun.
The average college student will only sleep for about 4 – 8 (that’s rare though) hours a night. You have the rest of the time you spend during the day being awake to check your phone. Even if you turn the notifications off, is it so hard to take two minutes and open the app to check matches? But I guess you don't care that someone actually wants to talk to you.
2. “You Can Reach Me Faster Through My Instagram”
Going hand-in-hand with the last one, why would you redirect me to another app? You’re wasting my time with mindless runaround. This means I have to go all the way through your profile and find your Instagram. I just can’t help but feel like I’m putting in way more effort than I should just to talk to you.
1. People I Knew In High School
Yeah… That one’s a bit self-explanatory.
To be quite honest this app would be way more fun if you get to hear DJ Khaled say "another one" or "don't play yourself" by swiping right/left respectively -- just a thought.
