An Open Letter To My Parents

The people you call your parents may not have birthed you. They may not have even raised you. But there is no doubt you would ever be the same without them. I am so grateful for the parents I have. They aren't perfect, but they are perfect for me.

I can honestly say that my parents are my best friends. They are who I run to when I get an 'A' on my paper. They are who I run to when I am having a hard day. They are who I run to for anything and everything. I will be so happy if I turn out to be a fourth of the parent you are today. No amount of words or actions could ever show how much I truly appreciate them, but here are a few things I am thankful for.

1. Thank you for telling me how proud you are of me.

2. Thank you for bragging about me to all your friends.

3. Thank you for pushing me to be the best I can be.

4. Thank you for giving me bear hugs.

5. Thank you for making me who I am today. You kind of killed it.

6. Thank you for boosting my self-esteem. I know my middle school stage was very awkward, but thanks for telling me I looked good.

7. Thank you handling all my rants and attitudes.

8. Thank you for calming me down.

9. Thank you for working as hard as you do to provide for me.

10. Most of all, thank you for loving me unconditionally.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
