The American television sitcom, "F.R.I.E.N.D.S.," aired from 1994-2004, lasting 10 incredible seasons. The show has been over nearly 12 years and yet generation after generation still acquires the same enjoyment from it. My mom used to watch the show when she was pregnant with my sister and I, and it has been our favorite show to watch together for years now. The six main characters are distinctively unique, and they all teach the audience countless lessons on life and love. It mainly focuses on the group of 20-something-year-olds trying to find their way through life in the crazy, big city (NYC). Although it is a hilarious comedy show, the characters portray real life situations dealing with happiness and heartaches. So thank you, to them all, for helping myself and others find our way through this wild roller coaster of life.
Thank you Rachel,
Rachel Green, played by Jennifer Aniston, teaches the audience that it is never too late to reinvent yourself. She went from a spoiled "daddy's girl" to an independent woman working her way up in the fashion industry. In the very first episode, Rachel says this line while talking to her dad on the phone after walking out on her wedding, to a man she didn't truly love: "It's like all my life everybody keeps telling me that I'm a shoe. You're a shoe, you're a shoe, you're a shoe! But what if I don't want to be a shoe anymore? Maybe I'm a purse, or a hat. I don't want you to buy me a hat, I'm saying I am a hat! It's a metaphor, Daddy!" Never be afraid to be something different, to expand your horizons and better yourself as a person. Rachel taught us that with courage and determination anything is possible.
Thank you Monica,
Monica Geller, played by Courteney Cox, teaches the audience how to care for one another. Although she obtains a bossy, competitive personality, she loves her friends like they are family and open-heartedly takes them under her wings, no matter the circumstances. She is not afraid to show people who is boss however she still demonstrates how to endlessly support the people you love.
Thank you Phoebe,
Phoebe Buffay, played by Lisa Kudrow, teaches the audience to always be yourself and to genuinely embrace all of your weird and odd quirks. She is always true to herself, no matter how strange others think she may be. Not only is she not afraid to voice her opinions but also knows her self worth and that she is unique and awesome. Her confidence is evident and effective on others as she is always trying to make her friends aware of just how special and different they truly are.
Thank you Joey,
Joey Tribbiani, played by Matt LeBlanc, teaches the audience that it is okay to still be a child at heart sometimes. Life isn't enjoyable when you take it seriously at all times. Joey enjoys to eat endless amounts of food, have fun with his friends and chases his dream of becoming an actor. He also teaches us how to deal with rejection and that everything does not always go according to plan. Joey goes with the flow and always gives his best to the people around him.
Thank you Chandler,
Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry, teaches us how to laugh at ourselves every once in awhile. When a situation turns bad, sometimes all you can do is laugh it off. In the episode, "The One with the Tea Leaves," Chandler says, "I'm not great at the advice. Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?" He cracks jokes to try and make a serious scenario more laid back. Moreover, he taught us how to get over our fears in life. If he would've kept his fear of commitment and lack of trust, he would have never fallen in love with his best friend, Monica.
Thank you Ross,
Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer, taught us how to never give up on the ones you love. Everyone makes mistakes once in a while, we are only human and are nowhere near perfect. However, Ross demonstrates that when you are in love with someone you should fight for them continuously, no matter how many odds are stacked against you.
This show has been there for me through some rough times and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. Thank you for the endless lessons and advice on how to deal with this crazy life, I definitely owe you one, David Crane, for creating such an incredible show!
