If You Give a Mom a Daughter...

If you give a mom a daughter, she will have a best friend for life. After all a mom is so much more than just a parent; she is the best friend a girl could ask for, the only teacher you ever need and the one you will always look to for guidance no matter how many years pass. The bond between mother and daughter is a special one that truly no one besides them can understand. She is the person you can tell all your secrets to and never fear they'll leave that sacred bond of trust. Whenever you need a new outfit, she is the absolute best shopping buddy. Fashion advice? That's her forte. Honest opinions on whether a dress is too short or that shirt is a little too tight? Don't doubt that she will be there with plenty of honest remarks, but feeling-friendly suggestions to add. Oh and those mean girls at college? She might hate them more than you do, but that's what makes you love her so much. And you can't forget about the fact that she's the best partner in crime a daughter could ask for. She hops right on board with all of your crazy ideas and even has some of her own.

If you give a mom a daughter, she'll never be alone. She will always have someone who needs her. I have never spent a single second of my life not needing my mom because the truth is, she is the strongest, bravest and most intelligent (not to mention beautiful) woman I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. If I can be even half of the mom, sister, daughter, friend, and woman she is then I will be an incredibly successful woman and hopefully someone she can always be proud to take credit for.

If you give a mom a daughter, she will always worry. After all, worrying is kind of her job no matter how much you wish she wouldn't. When you're little she worries that you are happy, safe and kind. When you're older, honestly, not much changes. She still worries that you're happy, safe and kind, but now she worries that your heart doesn't get broken too many times, or that you have what you need to be alright out on your own. She worries about whether she did a good job, even though you know she did and have never questioned it for a second.

If you give a mom a daughter, she will always be loved by her little girl. No matter how old I get, in her eyes I will always have a glimmer of that little girl she used to know and I'm thankful that at least she will never forget who I am even when I do.

If you give a mom a daughter, eventually that daughter will thank her for all the thankless tasks of motherhood. Thank you for loving me when I'm unlovable. Thank you for being my best friend, my partner in crime and my confidant. Thank you for never failing to teach me the lessons that all little girls need their moms for. I learn from you every single day.

Finally, if you give a mom a daughter, there will always be love in the world.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
