Fate is not a force to be reckoned with. It has a mind and agenda of its own. While we can do things to increase the odds of certain things happening, fate holds the keys to our futures. There are things we simply cannot change, no matter how hard we work.
If it's meant to be, you will become the next President of the United States.
If it's meant to be, you'll win the lottery.
If it's meant to be, you'll land a job in your field right out of college.
If it's meant to be, you will be able to bid a proper goodbye.
If it's meant to be, you'll wake up tomorrow.
If it's meant to be, your 11:11 wish will come true.
If it's meant to be, you'll win a Nobel Peace Prize.
If it's meant to be, you'll end up with the love of your life and live happily ever after.
If it's meant to be, you'll complete your bucket list.
If it's meant to be, you'll have kids one way or another.
If it's meant to be, you'll be awarded an amazing scholarship.
And if it's not meant to be, if you find that your 11:11 wish(es) never come true, or that you don't land your dream job, or you don't win the lottery, fate has a reason for bestowing such realities on you. The only way I can explain it is that ~it's simply not meant to be.~
But fate can play tricks on us. While we may think that it is working against us, it works behind the scenes to create the lives we never knew we needed. Fate is like that Professor that never explicitly tells you the answer to a question and will have you running through an obstacle course of the mind in order to reach the solution. In those moments, you think you'll never get an answer to your question and you'll be left void of intellectual stimulation, but getting that answer had never felt better because you ~waited~ patiently for it.
As a college student, sometimes my visions of the future become clouded by uncertainty. Who knows if my life will turn out the way I picture it in my head? (Aka, with plenty of room in my house for all of my puppies.) However, over the last few weeks, I have learned to be patient and let fate take the wheel a little more. As someone who likes control, this is agonizing, but I know I will thank myself later for waiting.
If it's meant to be, it will happen. If it doesn't happen, then it was never supposed to. And I'm finally okay with that.
