If Girl Scout Cookies Were College Students

They are just as diverse as we are.

College students are very diverse, but one thing most of us have in common (along with most of the general population) is our undying love for Girl Scout Cookies. I think one main appeal to the cookies is that their diversity often mimics the diversity found in people, especially on a college campus. Each cookies can be used to relate to a different type of student you see on a college campus.

Thin Mints: Thin mints are those people that everyone just seems to like. They make a good impression on everyone they meet, and they seem to be truly genuine. You don’t really know of anyone who actually dislikes them, and they are a frequent topic of conversation among mutual friends.

Samoas: Samoas are those people that somehow seem to have it all together. They are managing their courses really well on top of being involved in clubs, community service, and actually maintaining a pretty active social life.

Tagalongs: Tagalongs are the athletes on campus who seem to have created the perfect combination of schoolwork (cookie), athletics (peanut butter), and a social life (chocolate). Most people wouldn’t be able to handle such a variety of activities, but they take it in stride and make it work

Toffee-tastic: Toffee-tastic (a personal favorite of mine) is the really sweet girl on campus that no one really talks to or gives a chance. They just assume that she is weird without ever really trying to get to know her. Like with the cookie, people make judgments before they really know her.

Do-si-dos: Do-si-dos are those people that party so often that everyone else is confused about how they are still a functioning student just like they are confused about why we really needed a second peanut butter cookie.

Savannah Smiles: Savannah Smiles are the campus health nuts. They are always eating things that are good for them, and they manage to actually find time to go to the gym. They are also the ones that silently judge everyone else for getting a second order of fries or skipping the gym to sleep in on Sunday.

Trefoils: Trefoils are those students that you will always find in the library. They are the ones that throw off the grading curve and somehow always manage to do better than everyone else on assignments. They never forget an assignment which makes the rest of us look bad for forgetting every once and a while.

S'mores: S'mores cookies are the newest Girl Scout Cookie that I am just dying to try. These cookies are the brand new transfer student that everyone is curious about, but they aren't quite sure about yet. Time will only tell how everyone will feel about them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
