If Dogs Could Vote

What would your pup say about the 2016 election?

It is amazing to think about how far dogs have come, from wild canines to man’s best friend. Dogs, sweet four legged creatures, that we let into our homes and form special bonds. We trust the science of domestication and more importantly we trust them. They snuggle up to us looking for comfort and in return we are comforted. Besides cats, there is no other animal really we can build such a close relationship with.

They are dependent on us for food, shelter and love. However, there is no true form of communication between us to understand what they need and what they’re thinking. We rely on the formed bond. I can certainly admit being frustrated that dogs can’t talk and we cannot hold out conversations about how the world was created or even what I should eat for dinner or politics.

With the 2016 election on the rise and mid-campaign season, it leads me to think about what if dogs could vote? We rely on them heavily for support and companionship, what would they think about the people who would run our country ultimately affecting our lives and theirs.

These are my predictions. I respect all other opinions; this is intended to create lighthearted conversation. The three most popular candidates are the Democratic party’s Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders and Republican party’s nominee Donald Trump. What kind of dog would support each candidate?

Clinton’s main policies are raising the minimum wage, providing tax relief and protecting women’s say over their bodies. Some dog breeds that I think would vote for Clinton are Great Pyreness, Golden Retrievers, Shih Tzus and Chihuahuas. Great Pyreness are known to be working dogs, I believe they would agree with an increase in wage. Golden Retrievers and Shih Tzus are known to be all round great breeds; I think that they would want fair taxes respective to financial classes. Chihuahuas have a reputation for having female owners. Chihuahuas have spunk and are protective, therefore, I think that they would be advocates of a pro-choice policy.

Sanders is infamous for wanting to pass a free college policy, to establish universal health care system and to cut U.S. carbon pollution by 80 percent. Some dog breeds that I think would vote for Sanders are Border Collies, Dachshunds, French Bulldogs and Pugs. These breeds are popular among young adults and Sanders has a great following among this generation. Border Collies are an extremely intelligent breed and would want to advance their education even more with free college. Dachshunds are low to the ground enjoying every nook and cranny of the earth, they would care a lot that it is getting taken care of. French Bulldogs and Pugs, unfortunately, have a lot of health problems; free health care would definitely revolutionize their lives.

Trump is known for his extreme policies of building a fence to stop illegal immigration, protecting right to bear arms, and supporting nuclear energy. Some dog breeds that I think would vote for Trump are American Foxhounds, Irish Setters and Coonhounds. All of these breeds are great hunters, partners to arms bearing humans, they need the right to bear arms to carry out their skill of hunting. As for a dog breed that would favor U.S. budget on building a fence cannot be found.

Once again this is a fun thing to think about what your dog would think of our next president, opinions may vary. Just remember be the person your dog thinks you are and vote in the 2016 election.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
