If Dad Bods Are A Thing Then Mom Bods Should Be Too

If it’s working for the boys, it’s time we give it a try

For those of you who don’t know, "dad bods” have become of thing as of recently.

As one of my fellow Odyssey writers said, “The dad bod is a nice balance between a beer gut and working out. The dad bod says, "I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time." It's not an overweight guy, but it isn't one with washboard abs, either.”

The dad bod has allowed frat boys to enjoy their weekends without being overly nervous that they will have no shot picking up a girl and that they should immediately get to the closest gym.

Okay, so we have this new standard for guys. Why don’t we have it for girls too?

Let me start by saying, this is not one of those "feminist articles." I am not going to talk about how hard it is to be a woman and how everyone should stop body shaming young females. Although I certainly do think there is a lot of pressure on young girls to dress a certain way and have a certain body type. There is definitely a double standard there.

If there are girls who like the “dad bod” look for their men, I can’t help but wonder if there are guys out there who like the “mom bod” type.

I guess we would first have to define what a “mom bod” really is. If I had to guess, it would be a curvier figure than the average nineteen or twenty-something-year-old girl has. It would include wearing what has become known as “mom jeans” and being confident. I think a mom bod would include not being stick-skinny and letting yourself eat what you want, without fear that boys will judge you and deem you undesirable.

I think the more we strive to look like a mom, the more confident we will be. I love my mom and think she is one of the most amazing people in the world.

If we look at some celebs with mom bods, they all have bodies that boys would surely not be disappointed with. (Think: Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Chrissy Teigen, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, and Kourtney Kardashian just to name a few.)

So, to all you girls out there that have trouble getting that narrow waist no matter how many times you go to the gym per week, I suggest you test the waters with the mom bod.

Remember, it’s important to stay fit, eat healthily, and be active. Keep going to the gym a couple times a week, and don’t totally abandon salads forever, but also remember that cookie or slice of pizza won’t kill you either. If it’s working for the boys, it’s time we give it a try.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
