If College Majors Were Flowers

It is all in the beauty of spring.

As spring has bloomed, I was noticing all the beautiful flowers around campus here in Charleston, South Carolina. What really got me thinking was how each individual flower has specific characteristics that make it so unique. Well so do college majors.

1. Education - sunflower

There is no flower that can light up someone like a sunflower. Similar to that of an education major. Education majors tend to be very bright and creative people.

2. Psychology - lilies

The Lillies are created with volume, are effortless, and exotic. Psychology majors are people filled with volume. Their minds are always racing with thoughts based on research or experiments while they are effortless in their drive to succeed. There minds are often exotic. Psychology majors have to be exotic in their minds to come up with brilliant ideas.

3. Business - orchid

The Orchid is one of creativity and complementary. As business majors, you must be creative in your ideas and developments while complementary in your style.

4. Music - amaryllis

This flower is beautiful, gets overlooked, and comes in many colors. I chose this for a music major because I feel as if the music is a major that can be sometimes overlooked but is more in-depth than a person suspects. Music is beautiful, and can come to make someone feel many different emotions, ones that can be reflected by color.

5. Nursing - hydrangea

Hydrangeas are fresh and beautiful. Although the nursing major is a tough one when you finally get to that position you are going to bring freshness and beauty into wherever you may be working. Patients are going to look to you for guidance, emotional support, and to instill confidence.

6. English - daffodils

Daffodils are the type of flower that can make someone smile. With the reading and writing skills of an English major, you are likely to hear empowering words from them, maybe a quote they like, or an inspiration to read a certain book. English majors are for sure to put a smile on your face.

7. Journalism - tulips

The tulip is one great for any occasion. As is a journalism major. Need some insight for a paper, book, blog, or anything along those lines? A journalism major would be happy to help. One who has a creative and beautiful mind, aspiring to get a word out, write about anything imaginable from any occasion.

As you can see, flowers can be placed simply as college majors. When we look at these beauties this spring think about how a flower gets to be a flower. Look at the shape, color, growth, and scent. What does it remind you of?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
