I Would Rather Have A Platonic Soulmate Than A Romantic One

It's the kind of friendship we all need.

When thinking about soulmates, many of us are instantly drawn to a romantic partner—the person we end up marrying, the person we're supposed to spend forever with. However, I'm a firm believer that soulmates can come in many forms, many of which are much better than a soulmate of the romantic kind.

One of these forms is our platonic soulmate, or best friend soulmate.

Personally, I have a handful of people that I consider my best friend. That doesn't make any of these friendships any stronger or better than the other. I view them all equally. However, I do have one friend who I consider to be my platonic soulmate. Our personalities and everything about us just clicks so perfectly that I would be lying if I said I didn't consider her to be a soulmate of mine, and no, there's nothing even slightly romantic about our relationship.

With a platonic soulmate, you're always on the same page. It's the best kind of relationship because you just click together so well that when one of you is in the mood for something, you best believe the other one is, too. This is great because you'll always have someone who's down for drinks and a night out on the town but who also understands that sometimes pajamas and a movie is the actual Saturday night move. But your platonic soulmate is so much more than just a 24/7 bar partner—they get you on a level that no one else ever will.

Your platonic soulmate gets the best of things. The get that cool combinations of the perks of a romantic partner and family member without all the bullshit that can pull those relationships apart. You don't share the same bloodline so you don't have the exact same traits that drive each other nuts, although you'd be lying if you said you didn't drive each other crazy sometimes. You don't have to worry about your platonic soulmate cheating on you either, or fuss about getting forced into some kind of label. Everything is right in that sweet spot, which makes your relationship the absolute best.

Finding your platonic soulmate is the true blessing that we should all be searching for. I'm not saying everything with them is all sunshine and happiness, but it's the kind of friendship we all need.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
