The day in a life of a new member in a sorority has been
filled with pure joy, immense love, extreme acceptance, and not to mention a butt load of gifts. Now that this cherished short time of being a new member is coming to a close, it is a wonderful time to look back and reflect on not only how much you have grown into a sorority woman, but also an individual.
Not to sound cliché here but, Chi Omega so far has truly opened my eyes to experiences and women that have actually changed my life for the better. I have been graced with some of the most intelligent women who have assisted my future plans and goals that I now behold, Or even the fact that such beautiful unique girls could become so close under such a strong meaningful symphony that we all strive to live by. It is funny to think that during recruitment when the milkshakes were being served, I thought that was the highlight of my experience so far in Chi Omega. Let’s just say I was not seeing the big picture beyond those sugared sprinkles and all.
As a new member, I feel as if I need to do a little recap about my sorority since it is not all that official yet being apart of this shnasy organization. Coming into the sorority life I had some expectations of the usual meeting new girls, feeling comfortable with myself and learning more about sorority life in general. I used to look at sorority life as a stereotypical girls thing where we all gossip and don’t eat. Good One!
I now, being at the end of my new member journey, am able to look back at my semester and smile from all the expectations that I feared and were completely off.
I can now appreciate the bond that us 44 new naïve sorority girls have made through the accepting and wonderful organization that makes us proud each and everyday to show off our letters. We have come so far since the day we all gathered on the Chi Omega lawn where we were hugging each other randomly, to now still hugging each other randomly but with knowing that we have each other’s backs as a friend and a sister.
This sisterhood would not have been as important to us new members without the strong support, contagious love, and the push for excellence from the active members. It is not a cliché to truly say that we have some major shoes to fill while we will still look up to all the women who have gotten us to this point in our lives.
As our new member journey slips away into a memory, I have to note upon how we have grown so much through these few months, with finding open arms to welcome us. Someone somewhere said, “Home isn’t a place, it’s a feeling,” I truly could not have found a better fit for that then Chi Omega.
