When I first joined Alpha Xi Delta, I knew that it was going to give me sisters and friends for life. On Bid Day I knew that my future best friend, partner-in-crime and maid of honor was sitting in that room with me. It was just a matter of time before I found who it was.
A few weeks passed complete with sisterhoods, date functions, themed gatherings, etcetera. I got to know all of my pledge class sisters, some of the older girls, and even got the most amaXing Big I could have ever hoped for. However, I still had not found that one person that I knew I could go on late night runs to Taco Bell with, but also run half marathons with, and then it happened.
During Greek Week we were at a themed gathering and the theme was Hometown Throwdown (AKA dress like your hometown/high school). There were people in old football jerseys, cheerleading uniforms, business suits, etcetera, but I noticed a girl in a flannel. Now, she was one of the only ones in a flannel, telling me she was from a small town, like me. So, I went up and talked to her and we bonded over the fact that our hometowns were about a half hour apart, we had mutual friends and opposite good sides. You could say it was love at first sight with the two of us.
After that night we began doing almost everything together. We both lived in the house our sophomore year so we got even closer. I would go to her room for snacks and she would come to mine to vent. We had a really good thing going. We took care of each other, loved each other and would have done anything for the other person, just after a few months of our newfound friendship. The summer between sophomore and junior year we went on vacation together, visited each other's hometowns and started training for a half marathon together, something neither of us could do without the other.
Junior year was even better! We were roommates, the best of roommates! Sleepovers with my best friend every single night, it couldn't get any better. Movie dates, motivating each other, laughing until we cried, getting real with each other when necessary. We are the definition of best friends and I wouldn't want it to be with anyone else.
I've never had someone in my life who I know will stand by my side no matter what and love me unconditionally as she does and for that, I am forever grateful. She's not afraid to hurt my feelings because she knows when I need a reality check, but she also knows when I need picked up and is right there, Insomnia Cookies in hand. I am so thankful that Alpha Xi Delta brought me my lifelong best friend, because I couldn't imagine my life without her and I am so excited to see what senior year has in store for the both of us.
I hope everyone can find the Serena to their Blair!
