We all like to be in control don’t we? We all like to have a game plan for not only today, but also tomorrow and the next day and even five years down the road. It is so easy to wake up in the morning and distinguish what you’re going to do that day and how exactly you’re going to do it. We think we have it all under control as we sit there, sipping on some nice hot coffee to kick start our day, while writing down our entire lives in our daily planners. While this is all very normal and common, it can be misleading and end up leaving you in disappointment.
Thinking back to my freshman year of high school, when I thought I had my entire future planned out to a T and let me tell ya, it looked golden in my eyes. I liked the thought of having everything under control and in my hands, because I was able to alter and sculpt it however I wanted to, or so I thought.
Clarity in life does not come easy. Sometimes your view on life can be a lot like an eye doctor’s appointment. When you’re sitting in the patient’s chair, and the doctor swings the different dials in front of your face to check your vision, all of them seem to be blurry and tend to hurt your eyes. Soon the doctor discovers a prescription that could help improve your vision, your earthly vision at least. What does your daily vision look like in Christ? Is it blurry or clear? Let God be your doctor, He has the cure; He will make your vision 20/20 when you focus on Him.
The second we realize that we are not in control of our lives, life will become more simple. Romans 8:31 declares, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” Therefore what could we, children of God, possibly be scared of or unsure of? God can see further than you can and already has a plan, so don’t waste your time squinting and straining your eyes, because you cannot see that far. Peace is found when you lay your life down and leave it where it first began, in the hands of Christ.
Whether we have realized it yet or not, God holds our clay of life in His hands, and He will shape it himself.
Be still and let God work on His masterpiece. He doesn’t need your hands on His project, because He already knows exactly what it will look like when He’s finished. The question is, are you willing to drop your tools, which are less powerful than Gods and hand Him your clay. God has the right utensils prepared to use on your life. Yes, sometimes He may use a hammer or even a chisel and the loud noises and stressful pounding may make you weary at times. But leave no doubt, God is only testing your faith and is standing there with a cloth ready to polish His gem when all is said and done. You just have to be willing to be patient, and let God use whatever He needs to use to shape your life.
Wake up from now on and know you don’t have to have it all figured out. All we are called to do is, know Jesus, enjoy Jesus, share Jesus and display Jesus; this is where joy is found. Throw your tools up to God and take that next step of faith, knowing it is all already done.
