Movie-goers might still be watching movies yet missing the community experience of seeing them with a community because they're stuck at home during this COVID-19 pandemic.
But Lionsgate has a solution for those who are stuck scrolling through the same lonely reruns.
Starting Friday, April 17, the entertainment company is partnering with Fandango and YouTube to stream some of Lionsgate's most popular titles – "The Hunger Games," "Dirty Dancing," "La La Land" and "John Wick" – for free through Lionsgate's YouTube page and Fandango's Movieclips YouTube page.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, known for "Halloween" and "Freaky Friday," will host the series of watch parties and share her movie memories with special guest celebrities and YouTube personalities. Every Friday, there will be special programming and interactive activities for fans like real-time fan chats via YouTube Live, live-tweeting and shared fan engagement opportunities in-show, including movie trivia, challenges, and more.
Joining these events is for a good cause, too. In support for the country's temporarily jobless movie theater employees, Lionsgate's initial donation, audience contributions and partner donations throughout the events will benefit the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping workers throughout the motion picture industry. During the Coronavirus, The Will Rogers Foundation is providing financial assistance to theater employees furloughed by the crisis.
