On the subject of the most recent Republican debate, Senator Ted’s Cruz premise and his apology deserve a mention. They also made me curious as to who he is. I did a small background check on him. This is what I found: He was born in Calgary, Canada on December 22, 1970. He lived there until he was five years old. His father left his mother in Canada in 1974 and moved to Texas. Later that year, his father became a born-again Christian and reconciled with his mother. The family relocated to Houston, Texas. His father is from Cuba and came to the United States in the 1950s for college. His father was a resident of the United States for 31 years and did not become an American Citizen until 2005. His mother was born in Delaware. They are both mathematicians.
Ted Cruz graduated from Princeton, Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Arts, and Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law School. He opposes same sex marriage and abortions. He does not agree with and will oppose expanding amnesty to undocumented persons. He opposes net neutrality, meaning he believes Americans should be paying to use the internet. What I find extremely interesting is that he professes he is a Christian and pro-lifer, yet he supports the death penalty. What I also find interesting is he opposes a higher minimum wage.
Senator Cruz is intellectually brilliant, and no one can deny it. He is also an ultra-conservative in his views and politics. He has a reputation for giving long speeches and using subversive tactics. His most famous long speech lasted 21 hours, which caused the government to shut down in 2013; he did this to block Obama’s Healthcare plan.
Being that he is an intelligent, educated man, I was very surprised he used this tactic. I am sure he studied philosophy. He knows he used hasty generalization, appealed to ignorance, and used the strongest fallacy of all in his argument, the Ad Hominem fallacy. It was slanderous. As far as his apology, no one can take that seriously either. His apology was sarcastic and derogatory towards all New Yorkers. Senator Cruz, I hope you read this article, because just based on a philosophical argument, you must apologize, and apologize without the sarcasm. As a fellow New Yorker, I demand it. You are not a person that I want to represent me. Is this really how you are?
