The wonderful world of beauty products. Nowadays, makeup videos are all over social media platforms including Youtube and Instagram. It is a pretty controversial topic because many claim that you are not showing your true self to others and are misleading them. However, makeup is so much more.
Makeup is one of the only things that I can do that lets me be creative and it makes me feel more confident at the same time. When I was growing up, I was never considered the "pretty" one. At the age of 12, I remember picking up one of my mom's Dior eyeshadow palettes that had such bold, beautiful colors. I experimented, and I realized that I loved this newfound art. Of course, at the age of 12, I didn't wear it to school and what not, but when I got home I would play with my mom's products, and I could spend hours in the bathroom just experimenting. Makeup was my outlet.
Now, how can beauty products save a person? Well, for me, it saved the little self esteem and confidence that I had but was losing quickly. In middle school, I was picked on for not looking like the other girls. I was bigger, and I really did not want to be. I would start losing the confidence that I tried to build up. Makeup, however, allowed me to leave a world of hatred and made me start loving myself. Many people claim people who use makeup are using it to hide, but I think it is quite the opposite. Doing my makeup taught me to enhance the features that were God-given and cover up the little imperfections that made me feel insecure. In my eyes, I am putting my best foot forward.
Makeup not only makes me feel more confident, but also allows me to de-stress from my hectic life. Being in high school is stressful and rough at times, and sometimes I let the stress build up to an unhealthy amount. When I sit down at my table and pull out all my products, all the stress starts melting away. I am in my zone where I feel relaxed and I can just enjoy putting it on.
One of the last reasons why I love makeup is because it allows me to be different from everyone else. There are so many looks out there to do, and playing with bold colors that normally people stray from is really fun. People ask me, "Why do you do such different looks?" I tell them, "Why not?" At the end of the day, makeup comes off. I wash my face every night and it is just me and my bare face. I am still me, just a bare-faced version. When I wear makeup, I am still me—just with makeup. I will always be myself just with a hint more confidence.
Makeup is such an empowering art. It makes people feel better about themselves just with a couple products. Makeup is art, a skill, a getaway from stress and a confidence saver. It saved my self-esteem, and I am a better person now because of it. I encourage everyone to experience the power of makeup.
