Thanksgiving; The Day of Food.
Easily one of everyone's favorite "holidays". A day where no presents are needed, no songs are sung; the only thing that you need is an open appetite and some of your loved ones around you.
So how do you know if you celebrated the right way?
You successfully dodged all questions regarding your future.
Aunt Joanne asked you what your major is, and you answered quick and to the point. You knew what was coming. You left no time or opportunities for her to ask anymore questions. She tried to pull some teeth on what you wanted to do after graduation (you are a senior), but come on-- you don't know what you want to do as well anybody else.
You managed to answer no questions regarding your relationship status.
Your 14 year-old cousin brought her boyfriend to the dinner table, your brother has had a girlfriend for over five years, and you have not been on a date for probably your entire college career. "Uh Aunt Joanne, I think I just want to focus on myself". Yeah right. You have never wanted a relationship more in your life, stop playing yourself.
You avoided everyone you didn't want to see.
You went to a party, or a few bars, and boom-- managed to dodge all weird interactions. Or at least you think you did. No painful reunions took place for you this weekend. Good work.
You ate enough to last you the rest of the semester.
Thank god you ate so much because you have three dollars left in your checking account. Seconds? Thirds? Sure. You blamed your barbaric intake of mashed potatoes on the excuse that you haven't had real food in months. You easily gained 7 pounds in these past four days and honestly, you are not mad about it. Now you don't even need to grocery shop. Not to mention, the rec center is free at school and maybe you can use it for the first time all semester now that you know everyone else will be there too. You can work out and get some brownie points because people will actually see you there... and believe you. Win, win.
You got to spend some quality time with loved ones.
Cmon, the real reason you came home. Your brother flew up from his real-life job to spend the weekend with you and you hadn't seen your sweet grandma in months. You have been talking about this reunion with your extended family for almost a year and sometimes you aren't lucky enough to keep in contact with everyone during the year, so you are happy to have this day together. You got to spend the holidays the best way you knew how-- with your favorite people. Family is forever.
Also your aunt makes a mean pumpkin pie.
