Having gone through the trials of middle school and high school, I’ve seen how easily it is to go through numerous friends. Maybe you had a falling out or maybe you just drifted apart. But, if you’re one of the lucky ones, you have that one friend that’s been there through it all. And I’m not exaggerating when I say that your friendship with that person is one of the most valuable things you can have.
The thing that’s weird about friends like this is that you can go days, weeks, or maybe even a month or two without talking, and yet when you do talk again it’s like nothing has changed. You spend some time catching up, fill each other in on the details of your lives, and hang out just like old times. You still trust them with every fiber of your being, and they give you their honest advice because even though you’ve spent time apart, you still know each other better than anyone else.
You have a million memories with this person and no matter how many times you’ve recounted and laughed about them, talking about them never gets old. Whether it be when you made funny home videos when you guys were eight or travelled to New York together in the seventh grade, the memories will always give you a good laugh. And the best part about this friendship is that you’ll continue to make so many more of these memories, no matter how old you get.
It doesn’t matter what time it is or what day of the week, you know you can call this person and they are there to listen. That’s the great thing about this friendship; you’ve been through so much together and you’re still friends with them, so you know that they genuinely care. Maybe you call them up to laugh about how you just spilled your coffee on your jeans, or maybe you need some relationship advice. They will know exactly what to say to help you because they know every side of you and every word that you’ll need to hear.
You’ll have disagreements. You may get upset about something the other person says or even get moody when they don’t call. But it’s always small bumps, and the road never ends. This friendship means too much to the both of you, and you always work through everything. The rough times just bring you closer.
So you may not talk every day and you may not see each other very often. But every time you do, you’re reminded why this friendship is so important to you, and you feel so glad to have someone so amazing in your life. They’re the Blair to your Serena and the Monica to your Rachel, and you should never take their friendship for granted.
