How to Overcome Writer's Block and Write An Odyssey Article

It's a very long-winded process, obviously.

We've all been there. You had a deadline. You have to write. Something needs to be on a page. You have an editor to please, or a professor. And you have no idea what to write. In fact, not knowing what to write has led me to write this article. In the process of trying to decide what to write, here are some of the things I've done to overcome writer's block.

1. Spent 15 minutes deciding what to watch.

Landed on: "RuPaul's Drag Race", season five. Other popular shows include Amazon's "Transparent" or the season three premiere of "How to Get Away with Murder."

2. Thought I found a topic, started writing, then deleted my work.

This article was originally supposed to be about Robby (not Robert!) from "Finding Prince Charming", but I couldn't find any GIFs of him. Which is a crime.

3. Ate a snack.

Of course I also spent 10 minutes standing in the door of my pantry, trying to decide what snack. And of course I can't eat and write at the same time. So that was a nice break.

4. Posted on Instagram.

I don't really have an excuse for this, I just love Instagram.

5. Sent a few emails.

That counts as work, right?

6. Scrolled through the New York Times webpage for article ideas.

There's so much going on in the news that I couldn't pick one and therefore decided to pick none.

7. Got distracted by RuPaul's Drag Race.

Well obviously I have to WATCH the runway!

8. Uploaded pictures to Facebook from my phone.

Really, I got distracted by the thought of clutter on my phone and now here I am.

9. Changed the water my flowers are in.

God forbid they died in the process of me writing this.

10. Changed my clothes.

I was kinda cold...

11. Made some tea.

It helps me think!

12. Updated my planner/calendar.

If I don't write down my appointments I'll forget, and that clearly cannot happen!

13. Googled the guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race.

Clearly, I shouldn't have started watching this show.

14. Finally gave up and settled on this article.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
