When you think of summer, you think about traveling, going on road trips and enjoying a great time with your friends and family. For me, when I think of summer, I think about water mostly swimming pools and water parks. Every year, I have a good time going to a water park with friends. But this year, I had a different experience. This year, I had a great time working in a water park than from what I expected.
Other than being under the sun and standing for many hours, I had a great experience learning about responsibilities, safeness, and the life of adulthood. I do owe much of that experience to Hawaiian Falls Water Park and Adventure Park in Pflugerville, Texas for giving me my summer dream job.
From what I learned, working in a water park is not like with kids. There are more energy, more enthusiasm, more action, more diversity, and more patience you have to have when working in a water park than when working with children. Plus, you have that happiness feeling when you see customers feeling excited to come and making a difference in their experience. But more important there’s that family bond and strong connections you form with your co-workers and the customers. Other than that, you get to see what happens behind the scenes, and how each department (life guard, front gate, manger, etc) work hard together and individually to make a fun, safe, and exciting experience for the customers and their families.
There are so many things this water park has taught me personally from helping customers to dealing with money, but mostly, it has taught me that every day is a new adventure; a new life. It taught me that I have to live my moment (not the past nor the future) to enjoy my time there. There’s nothing like going back home and feeling you had a great day regardless of how busy your day was.
But as this journey ends this summer, this will be the job that I’ll remember always. Hawaiian Falls Water Park and Adventure Park will be the place I look back to and say “that’s the one that changed me and changed my life.” So thank you, Hawaiian Falls, for helping me gain life time skills and for making me part of this great family.
