With the 2016 Presidential election coming close, it is hard to ignore the constant coverage of both main party nominees. While much the country still remains very conflicted when it comes to deciding who to vote for in November, there are some important things to keep in mind. Although, many, myself included, do not think that Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump properly represent their core values-- there are some areas in which Mr. Trump will never even come close to most people's beliefs.
Women's Issues: Trump is notorious for belittling women. His disgusting language, misogynistic overtones, and blatant disrespect for women of all groups is not something Americans are unaware of. Trump sees women as nothing more than 'ascetically pleasing objects.' He seems to think that a woman's value is only skin deep. In an interview in 2014 Trump stated “I mean, we could say politically correct that look doesn’t matter, but the look obviously matters." He further made is point by adding that the reporter interviewing him, would not have her job if she was not beautiful. We do not need to elected a man who takes 50 percent of the population as a joke. We cannot let young boys look up to Donald Trump as a role model, and we cannot let young girls be discouraged by such hateful words against women.
Race Issues: Although Trump claims he is "the least racist person you ever met," because that's how someone who isn't racist describes themselves, his actions couldn't prove anything but the opposite. His record is drenched in racism, going as far back at the 70s. In 1973, the US Department of Justice took Trump to court when it was found that his earliest business was discriminating against African Americans by screening possible tenants by race. In more recent news, when confronted about two of his supporters beating a Black Lives Matter protester, Trump responded by saying that his supporters were 'passionate.' I don't think that is the right word to describe people committing a hate crime. Do you?
Immigration: Trump is extremely xenophobic, he harbors irrational fears and creates sweeping generalizations about specific ethnic groups. For instance, when speaking about Latinos Trump once said, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” However, this sweeping generalization could not be any further from the truth. Trump believes he can 'fix' these issues by using 'extreme vetting' for immigrants. Now, Trump's proposed policy is rather ironic. He wants to ensure that before entering America, immigrants hold American values regarding gay rights, gender equality and religious freedoms, etc. I am not quite sure what exactly Trump considers 'American values' since his views in each area are quite bigoted.
LGBTQA Rights: Trump's running mate, Mike Pence, could not be any more clear about his stance on LGBTQA rights. In 2006, Pence announced that he supported a constitutional amendment that would create a ban of same sex marriage. Pence believes that he can take his religious views and use them to dictate what Americans can and cannot do. America, a country built from immigrants from various religions and backgrounds will not be stifled by the beliefs of a religion they do not practice. The extent of Pence's bigotry does not end there however, he proposed a plan to take funding from HIV prevention and put it toward conversion therapy. This thought process was absolutely irresponsible. There is no reason to defund extremely necessary research to a fund cruel process that in no way will ever be considered therapy.
America does not need to be lead by someone with such hateful beliefs. We are a nation comprised of people from various backgrounds, different gender identities, and different sexualities. Despite his desire to "make America great" he cannot possibly do that while harboring that much hate.
