As the month of July is wrapping up, the national campaign for the presidency of the United States is actually just heating up. After months and month of primary voting, the two main parties of our democracy have picked their candidacy. For the republicans, it is Donald Trump. I could write pages upon pages on how I feel about that, but instead I want to focus on the other party, and how Hillary Clinton won the nomination and Bernie Sanders fell short of a victory. Being a Bernie supporter, it was hard to see him lose, but I want to focus on the many different stages that we all witnessed of Bernie's campaign. Bernie was never suppose to win, that was said by many, especially within the media. However, there are some important things we should all take away on how much of an impact he has on our country and the people within it.
He taught us to be humble.
Whether sitting on a regular, commercial airplane to walking to work with his grandson, Bernie always seemed to not be one for the lavish side of things. Granted, his yearly salary is still higher than 95 percent of Americans, but it ranks the as one of the lowest in regards to a member of Congress.
He reminded us to respect and be friendly to everyone.
Bernie always demanded equal treatment for all, no matter their background or ideology.
He even was arrested during a Civil Rights Events.
He reminded us that no one is invincible.
Reminded you that truth is stranger than fiction.
It's uncanny how the whole bird incident happened but maybe it was just Mother Nature showing her appreciation for his demand for reduced CO2 emissions and to fight against the oil business. Regardless, the fact that a democratic socialist who was independent most of his political career almost just fun the presidential candidate is something that no one would have predicted.
He proved that change can happen and will happen.
In some cases you can say that Bernie Sanders did in fact win. Not based on the number of delegates needed to get the nomination but the fact that so many people have embraced his ideas. Because of this, some of Hillary Clinton's policies have been directed towards these voters. With the potential for Hillary to win the presidency, some of Bernie will still be with her, just as he is with many others. We all in sense have felt the Bern.
