How You Can Stay Productive Over Break

The end of the semester slowly approaches, and before you know it, you'll be free from all of your college worries. Your exam stress will peak and, suddenly, nothing. No worries for an entire month. You will turn in your last final and jauntily gallivant all the way to wherever you live to sleep in your own bed and use your own bathroom and pet your own pet. While the first few days of break are most likely to be spent catching up on all of the (insert popular show here) episodes that you missed while you were off colleging, eventually you will find yourself twiddling your thumbs, telling yourself that every tomorrow is the tomorrow that you get back into the productive swing of things. Perhaps you want to prepare for your next semester, write that book on that thing you think you're good at or record your newest rap album. Staying productive over break can be tricky, but with a touch of self-discipline and a bit of good planning, you can remain a busy beaver and build all the damns you want over break.

Start off by establishing goals. A clear end game will help your mid game which will help your early game. Basically, know where you want to be when you trudge back to school. Do you want to have a head start on your next semester's classes? Do you want to be a ripped meat titan? Do you want to be an established rapper, dropping sick rhymes with the greats? Answering these questions will help you work backwards to establish a solid daily routine.

Which brings us to phase two:

Create a daily routine and daily goals. If you want to get swole, think about a specific workout program. If you want to study for classes, dedicate a specific amount of time to each class you want to get ahead in. Set a concrete and feasible daily routine, and every morning, right after you wake up, metaphorically punch it in the face. Show your daily routine who's boss and run your damn jog, lift your damn weights, read your damn textbooks. You will not be bested by laziness, you will not be feel shame for failing your daily tasks. Get it out of the way, every day.

After a week or so of consistently performing your established daily routine, evaluate your progress in respect to your end goal. If you haven't made the progress that you desire, maybe step up the intensity of your daily tasks. If you've made more progress than you were expecting, give yourself a pat on the back and maybe you can tweak your routine, allowing yourself to chapel chill out a little bit. It is a break after all.

Now the only thing you have left to do is hike up your britches, grab life by the horns, and do it. All of this planning just turns into extra reminders of how much you failed if you never put forth the effort to accomplish your goals. So don't let this break be like every other break. This is the one where you turn everything around. Do it. You won't. I don't even think you can. Prove me wrong. Do it. Do it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
