I went bowling with the peer leaders one time during my senior year of high school. We went to Bowlero in North Brunswick. It was really fun. That night changed my life. It also changed my perspective on how to play bowling, especially how to throw a bowling ball.
I once went bowling at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It was not like Wii Sports. Wii Sports made bowling look easy to play but it is hard to do so in real life. My bowling ball could not get strikes. It also kept going in the gutter. What was I doing wrong?
When the time came for me to play bowling at Bowlero, I was nervous about it. I thought that I was not going to have a lot of fun there. I still gave it a try though. In the beginning, my bowling ball kept going in the gutter. I did not get any strikes yet. I observed how the peer leaders played bowling. Then, the idea came to me that I should roll the bowling ball slowly to see what would happen. And so I did. The bowling ball rolled slowly. One of the peer leaders saw the bowling ball rolling slowly and exclaimed, "Amber, you made the bowling ball roll slowly! Now it's going to take forever and it's not going to hit the pins!" All of a sudden, as the rolling ball rolled slowly, it was about to hit the center of the pins. The peer leader then said, "Wait a minute. Let's see." Then, there was a sound and all the pins got knocked down. It was a strike. The peer leader jumped and said, "Yay, Amber! You did it but next time, throw it faster!" I nodded and I thought that this peer leader was very funny. When I did this strategy again and got another strike, another peer leader had the same reaction.
Then, it was everybody else's turn. Everybody was told to roll the bowling ball quickly so that we can get more fun time. However, when the peer leaders rolled the bowling ball quickly, it went straight to the gutter. Their reactions were funny. Some of the peer leaders scolded each other for making them roll the bowling ball quickly. Other peer leaders screamed and punched the sofa. Someone almost tore the sofa into pieces. Afterward, they all keep playing until it was time for them to go home. I had to go home early sadly because it was past my curfew.
Bowling was related to the moral of Aesop's The Tortoise and the Hare, which is a slow pace can bring higher chances of success. Rolling the bowling bowl slowly brings higher chances of getting a strike while rolling the bowling ball quickly will bring higher chances of going to the gutter.
