How To Lose A Guy In 10 Ways

This is the truth about what guys really hate.

I love the movie “How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days.” It is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. In the movie, Kate Hudson pretends to date a guy and purposely loses him, just to prove her point that women can do some of these things to repel men. So I asked some of my best male friends (Paul Malhotra, Ryan Whitehead and Wole Ogundele) what major things girls do that turns them off the most.

Here's what they said:

1. When women are too clingy

I hate to say it but, guys don’t like girls who are too clingy!

We want to come off strong, independent and not like we are desperate for attention, right? We don’t need a guy to be okay with ourselves. When Mr. Right comes into our lives, they will be a bonus.

2. Lying

No one likes a liar. You wouldn’t want a guy lying to you, so don’t do it to them.

“For me personally, if I get lied to, it causes me to close down because it shows me I’m not cared for enough to be told the truth.” – Ryan Whitehead

3. Faking a relationship with God. (Told by Ryan)

You have to be real with who you are and faking it is not the way to go. If you do “fake it till you make it” when you say you have a relationship with God, and you really don’t, you won’t “make it.” Lies will always catch up to you, so be honest. If you don’t have a relationship with God, be honest and real about it. It is okay because a guy will not judge you or not like you for it. I think he would appreciate it more if you told him your beliefs.

4. Bailing on a date

Bailing, in general, isn’t, cool and it especially isn’t cool when you bail on a date. If you go on a date and end up not feeling a connection, you can always say no. However, give the guy a try if you say yes to a date!

5. Idolatry

In essence, this means focusing on anything else other than God.

“We all fall short of the glory of God, and no one is innocent when it comes to that… and idolatry is usually the sin underneath a whole bunch of other sins. So if I allowed a person’s sinfulness to turn me off, then I will be single for all of my earthly days. To be clear, unrepentant sin is what turns me off.” Wole Ogundele

6. Inability to commit to anything or anyone (aka the party girl)

Any guy who is pursing you will want you all in. You have to be all in or all out. There is no in-between, so make up your mind. Think about what you really want, pray about this person and listen to what God is telling you.

7. Poor communication skills

Men love it when women can communicate with them well. Men become frustrated when women hold back their emotions from the guy. This also goes well with point number two, don't lie!

8. Being super guarded all the time

There comes a point in a relationship when you need to let your wall down and let him in. As time passes, you two should be getting to know more and more about each other. If you don’t let him into your life, then he won’t feel trusted. The same thing goes for him; if he is hiding things from you, he should let his wall down as well.

9. If she hates my female friends

"With this aspect of a relationship, trust has to be present. If either of you can't trust the other, then it won't work." — Ryan Whitehead

10. Chasing a guy to feel secure

Men love women who are confident, yes. However, men also like to be the hunters. So let him chase you. If a guy likes you, he will pursue you and it won’t go the other way around. In other words, don’t force it.

Wole said, “I just don’t appreciate it when girls take the lead in a relationship. It encourages laziness in the guy, and it also devalues the lady, I think. However, it is okay to encourage the guy to lead by asking, 'So where are we going?'"

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
