How To Conquer College Intramurals

Intramural sports are a crazy exciting way to add fun into your weeknights and it's a great way to make friends! GCU intramurals are fun whether you balled out in high school or haven't touched a ball since second grade! Find community in intramurals while you get a workout in (and beat the freshman 15!) -- seriously can it get much better?? Okay, the smelly pennies might not be a great incentive but the trophy for the winning team just might be! Make the most of your week by playing on a team! Here are eight ways to have fun with it!

1. Play with your friends (or make new friends)

Intramural sports are a fantastic way to hang out with your friends on a weekly basis or join a team and meet new people! Your opponents will often be your friends too, which makes things even more interesting!

2. Just wing it

Intramurals let you just wing it! You don't have to practice, you can just grab some friends and play. With so many schedules to consider, this allows you to still get a chance to play and if you miss a game they will just wing it without you!

3. Be competitive, but not too competitive

The nice thing about intramurals is that you don't have to be the most competitive person on the planet! But there are so many different leagues that give you the ability to choose the level of competitiveness and difficulty you want to play! Have fun because it's not meant to be the most serious thing on the planet, unless you guys really wanna go there.

4. You don't need experience

Whether you balled out in high school or you have never played soccer a day in your life, there is a team for you -- or make your own! Pick whatever level bracket you want to play in and focus on having fun!

5. Don't let boys pick the team name

I really don't think this one needs too much explaining but seriously if you let the boys pick the team name you may end up with something totally strange.

6. Co-ed

Co-ed is a great way to get all of your homies to play together but if you are going to play co-ed, girls -- you have to be ready to play against some big dudes. Pro tip from the guys on our team: Using scare tactics actually works! When you approach someone with the ball, scream or yell and it will frighten them!

7. Gear

So here's the deal, as cool as all your matching outfits are, it won't matter after you put on pennies! Oh and fair warning, they smell like they've never been washed and I'm pretty sure in fact they actually haven't.

8. Fans

To all your friends who declined your invitation to play, have them come be your fan section! Friends cheering you on is the best way to break the awkward quietness of intramurals! Maybe if you're lucky your grandma will come to the game too, like mine did!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
