How to Help in 2017
Reflections from a Red Head

New year means a new you, right? Well then make 2017 your best year yet! That doesn't necessarily mean changing your hair color or losing weight, it can mean helping those who are less fortunate than you. Did you know one of the most poor regions of the United States is the mountainous regions of Kentucky? These families don't even have running water. Make 2017 a year that you will plan to help those in need. Here are a few ways that you can help others!

Donate water to charities.

You may take weekly trips to the grocery store, but a lot of people go months without a trip to Walmart. Take $4.00 of your own money and buy a case of water and donate it to your local shelter or charities. They'd really appreciate the help.

Take a walk.

By walking to your destination, your vehicle won't be emitting carbons and greenhouse gases. It gives you some exercise and it allows you to save money on gas.

Bring your own bags to the grocery store.

Use re-usable plastic bags to use when you get groceries. This saves the bagger time and helps the planet stay green. Plus, re-usable bags normally have really cute designs!

Volunteer.

Use your free time to help others. If you have a weekend off of work, use it to feed the homeless at a shelter or make little bags to give to needy families. Even an hour of your time will help a charity or volunteer organization exponentially.

Do nice things for others.

If someone is behind you in a drive-thru, pay for their meal. Even if you do this once a year, you'll make someone smile and help them save a few dollars. Little things like this can help people more than you'll ever know. For example, get two dozen donuts and take them to a local city office. The gesture will be appreciated!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
