The summer bod is one of the most coveted, and most desirable things to college students these days. However, for most of us, food is also one of the most desirable things to college students these days. Food is vital to survival, but students, and especially girls and young women, tend to sacrifice food and regular eating habits for their summer bods. For those of you who don't, it's not the end of the world, though.
Summer is quickly approaching, but If you don't have your ideal summer bod:
Step One: Don't panic. It may seem like the end of the world, but you don't give yourself enough credit.
Denial: You may try to deny the fact that you won't be ready for summer. You could think of all the possible ways to catch up and lose weight fast; but, you pretend you don't care.
Anger: You get mad at yourself for not dieting and working out harder, longer and earlier. You let yourself go over Spring Break and you can't really seem to find a good regiment since you've gotten back.
Bargaining: You come to the conclusion that it’s not half bad to be yourself and look just the way you do. Sure, it’s good to be healthy and eat right, but your weight should never be determined by unhealthy dieting habits.
Depression: You then realize that amidst buying bathing suits and summer outfits that you want to be ten pounds thinner or two sizes smaller. You’re upset with yourself, but mainly, you’re just sad because you know that there is little you can do now with summer right around the corner.
Acceptance: These days, people tend to focus entirely too much on appearance. We try to compare ourselves to the models we see on covers and in television ads. These comparisons are extremely unrealistic! We need to be happy with who we are and what we look like. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what size our waists are, it matters how we live our lives. None of this will matter in the grand scheme of things.
Not looking like a model is not such a horrible thing. I understand wanting to be healthy and beautiful, but if you can’t lose that ten pounds before swimsuit season, you need not panic. Beauty is determined in part by confident and how you carry yourself. Happiness is the best form of beauty, and as long as you are happy and confident, you will be the best version of yourself.
