With Spring Break just around the corner, it doesn’t matter if you are chillin’ at home or chillin’ on the beach, we always want to look and feel our best. Spring break is not only a much needed break from classes, but it also means we are THAT much closer to summer.
Before you start to kill yourself by doing way too much cardio at the gym, there are a few things you should know first:
1. You don't know you're beautiful.
Yes, 1D said it best with their first hit you could never forget. Nowadays, we have so many images of the “perfect” or “ideal” body thrown our way. The first thing you MUST know about the images you see on social media is that nothing is exactly how it seems. You are getting one point of view, one picture of someone’s life. You don’t know the full story behind the picture. So, you can never compare yourself to someone else. You are the only person you are going to be. You should recognize all the amazing qualities you possess and focus on making yourself feel good. Slowly but surely you will see the changes start to appear in your mind and then in your body. It starts with your mindset.
2. Exercise releases endorphins and those make you happy.
Elle Woods said it best in Legally Blonde; exercise makes you feel great and gives you more energy. It may be hard trying to get to the gym. But, once you are there listening to your Spotify workout playlist, nothing can stop you from achieving whatever you want to achieve. You can always grab a friend to keep motivated too. You don’t even need a gym to work out. You can always youtube great workouts to do in your room. We are all extremely busy in college, so learn to schedule in time for working out. It will become a priority if you make it one.
3. You CAN have your cake and eat it too…
Ahhhh the dreaded sweets. With their little sprinkles and creamy frosting, they are calling your name from all the way over there, aren't they? If you make good choices most of the time, you can reward yourself when you see fit. NEVER restrict yourself! Instead, eat everything in moderation. Learn to eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full. Listen to your body and learn what makes you feel wholesome and good.
4. Drink plenty of water.
You’ve probably heard this 100 times over, but drinking water aids in flushing out toxins from your body and a lot of other amazing things. Learn to carry a water bottle with you wherever you go. A lot of times if you find yourself feeling hungry between meals or after you just ate, you could be just thirsty. Drink up sista’.
5. Find what makes you feel confident.
Confidence is key my friend. The confidence you have in yourself will superimpose itself onto others and that is how they will view you. If you choose to work out and eat healthy, do it for YOU and no one else. If not, that’s okay too, you do you! Splurge on that swimsuit or sundress that makes you feel wonderful, because that is REAL beauty right there.
No matter where you go for spring break, know that you can accomplish any goal you set your mind to through hard work and a little determination.
