How To Be You In College
Me

This is my first article on the Odyssey, and it definitely has been challenging coming up with what I want to write on, but I chose to write about YOU, I find you very intriguing. There is no one like you, no one with your heart, no one with your life, and definitely no one with your personality! You are amazing, so I wanted to give you some tips about showing people your true identity in college!

Tip #1: Create a top 10 list of your values. Sometimes it's hard to show people who you are when you don't even know what makes you, YOU!

Tip #2: Say hello to someone new every day! Don't be shy! This one can be tough, even for loud mouth people, like myself, but it is imperative to get to know new people even if they are nothing like you. This will help you understand people with different views, and will make you more compassionate about others situations.

Tip #3: Be involved on campus! It's the best way to share your gifts! Now I know what your thinking, there is no way I'm going to have time to study, hang out with friends, and do all these activities. Well, right now I'm currently apart of the tennis team, in the Theatre club, the cheer team, the Classics Chair for Falcon Activities and Campus Events, and Singing Quakers choir. Oh, and did I mention I'm graduating a year early. I spend at least 5 hours during the day surrounded by my friends. This crazy life isn't for the faint-hearted, but I always tell people if you are passionate about something you will make time for it!

Tip #4: Stay true to who YOU are! When you make new friends don't try to be someone you aren't. If they are a true friend they will love you for YOU.

Tip #5: Leave a mark on your school. This is such a broad statement but basically, what I mean is going through every day without making a difference in someone's life is to go through life with a heartbeat. Donate your extra time to helping others! Try things like tutoring or community service. Most schools have tons of opportunities for students to do these things. It doesn't even have to be that big! I could be as simple as holding the library door open for someone or asking how someone's day is.

Our society has slowly become people who are okay with putting each other down as long as it builds us up. If you lend a helping hand with your talents and your passion we can all reach the top hand in hand.

Now that you've read this article, I am so excited to see your new found confidence! Just always remember vulnerability is sexy! So be you! You are beautiful!

Peace be unto all!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
