By now, everyone is back to college and back to reality. And with that comes the stress, getting up early, and spending money you don’ t have.
Most college students have part time jobs to help pay for tuition, books (which are ridiculously overpriced), food, etc.
But juggling work, classes, and homework can be a very daunting task. At the moment, I am balancing 5 classes, and 2 part time jobs. I am just praying I have the strength and willpower to succeed and to stay awake.
College is stressful and time consuming. Putting a part time job on top of that can turn you into a nervous wreck.
On top of all of that, you may have very limited time for you or your family/friends. Relationship are an important aspect to maintain as well. They are the ones who will get you through the hard times and be supporting you and cheering you through it all.
Here are some tips on how to be successful in school, but also earn some cash:
- Manage your time well- On top of going to school, your time in between should be used for homework/studying, etc. After all, this job you have now is only temporary, but if you work hard in school you can get the job you worked so hard for. Also, if your job has slow spots, and your boss is ok with it, work on your homework.
- Have a set schedule - Your classes will be at the same time, but your job might not be. If you can set up a set schedule with your boss, it may be better so you know how much time you have.
- Make Time for Yourself - One of the most important things is to make sure that your health mental and physical is kept in check. Many times when people are stressed they won’t eat, and that can cause more harm than good. Also, everything at once can cause a strain on your brain and cause headaches, loss of focus, and even mental breakdowns. So make sure to always eat, have a movie marathon, or a spa day!
- Use a Planner- I find that this method comes in very handy. If you use a planner to write down your schedule, homework, tests, and other plans, you will know what you have coming up and when. This may result in less stress.
- Make Time for your Family and Friends - When you have free time always check in with the people who are always there for you. They are probably concerned and want to know how everything is doing. Plus, venting to your best friend usually make you feel better!
- Get Plenty of Rest- Lack of sleep can cause you to feel more stressed out, resulting in a decreased academic performance and and a chance of suffering from depression and anxiety. When you have some spare time, take a nap.
- Stay Focused - Concentrate on your end result. Do you want to have the highest GPA? Do you want to complete your degree on time? Or do you want a promotion at work? Whatever it is follow that goal and work hard to get there. You could make a vision board. Pin up pictures on your wall, or a vision board, and look at it daily. It could be a photo, quote, or handwritten note. It will inspire you and remind you of why you are doing this hard work.
Always work hard, but also always make time for yourself and others. Follow your dreams, even if it takes a difficult and exhausting road to get there.
