As college students, we've all learned the hard way that you have to make sacrifices to succeed. That you can only choose two from the sleep, social life, and good grades group. Yet, we all try to do the impossible and inevitably end up unmotivated by the strenuous life that is college. So, although I can not guarantee that you won't be hit by the Post Spring Break blues or Senioritis, here are some tips on how to survive and stay motivated this school year.
First of all, sleep when you should. If you have zero plans on a Tuesday night, refrain from binge watching One Tree Hill or Greys and go to bed. I know the Netflix game is hard to resist, but you will thank yourself when you're staying out late Thursday through Saturday. Plus, you'll be less likely to take unnecessary four-hour long naps in between or during class.
However, if it's finals week, sleep whenever you have a free minute. You'll need it for your sanity.
We all come to school to get that shiny diploma at the end of the four, sometimes five, years. The money we spend on that little object is no joke. So, don't take it as such. School is your number one priority. Meredith Grey did not end up as a surgeon that married McDreamy without studying her butt off, okay? It's important to remember that there's life at the end of the tunnel. A life that requires bills to be paid-- not by your parents. Get that GPA up so you can turn up when you're thirty. Oh, and take notes on notes and then review those notes for as little as five minutes after class. It will help a ton when test time comes around and you already know the information.
Finding your niche when you come to college is the most crucial thing you can do for your social life. Of course, you'll meet friends in your classes and in your dorm, but once you find what you love to be involved in the best of friends will be found as well. You'll meet people who ring the exact same chord as you. You'll also meet people who couldn't be more different. However, you'll learn to appreciate the similarities and the differences alike as you discover where your niche is. It's one of the little treasures you'll find in college. Finding the right crowd will impact your whole college dynamic. If you're friends with people who are lazy about school, you're more likely to become unmotivated. Surrounding yourself with better students/people will force you to become a better person.
The party never stops in college. It's pretty much a constant buzz, am I right? Learn to jam pack your day so you won't have FOMO or worse, go out when you should be studying. Get up and go to class, exercise, go to work, study, and then...... go party. It is true that you probably need to get the party out of your system and then you'll begin to ease up on the beer pong every night. Just always have good judgement and prioritize correctly.
So folks, college is different for everyone, but it can be extremely rewarding if done correctly. Try your best and you'll do just fine as a University student. You'll be making some of the most pivotal and amazing memories of your lifetime. However, what a shame it would be if you look back someday and know you could've done better. It'll be tough and busy, but so worth it. Grab a strong cup of coffee and go kill it this year, kids!
