How To Start Over

You can't let fear keep you from moving forward.

How To Start Over
Natalia Marin

One of the most terrifying things in this world is...starting over. I feel like most of us try to avoid this at all costs. We tell ourselves that we are okay where we are and that nothing needs to change, but the reason we do this is because of this fear that we are making the wrong decision or that we won't be okay. There also may be this fear that others won't accept us for starting over. These constant excuses will only leave you more frustrated though, and they will get you nowhere.Trust me, this is all normal and almost everyone on this earth will encounter these exact same feelings. So the first step to starting over is to recognize that you are not alone.

When you recognize that someone else has been in your shoes it makes moving forward a lot easier. Now the next step I recommend is to let go of everything that is holding you back. This is very broad, but if there is anything that makes you question who you are and what you want in life on a negative level, then the first thing you need to do is let go of this thing. Negativity blurs the eyes from seeing what is in front of us. Once you surround yourself with the things that make you positive and strong it makes seeing what's right in front of you a whole lot easier. It gives you the strength to know what you want to do, and you'll start to tell yourself to go out and do it. That fear of starting over will eventually fade away. You will be able to see with a clearer mind the choices you knew you wanted to make from the beginning, but were too fearful to pursue. Once you do this, you will start to see yourself climbing up the mountain that you use to be stuck on, and that is when you know you are doing the right thing for yourself and your future.

That moment you finally have this new vision right before your eyes is when you know it is time to finally make that extra push. It is finally time to take that chance you always wanted to make. This is where you pursue who you want to be and what you want to do. This step is all about change; a time to start fresh. Now that you have let everything go, there is nothing holding you back anymore. There are no more excuses, there are no more buts; there is only you and your goals left on the table. It is up to you whether you take that leap, but it is always better to try and move forward rather than staying stuck in the mud moving nowhere. If you are brave enough to take that chance and pursue what is lying ahead, then you have successfully began a new journey.

Starting over can be simplified down to these three steps, but these three steps can never define the amount of difficulty and bravery it takes to fulfill the journey. In the end, this journey is solely up to you to take.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
