As a Christian, it is always a good idea to brush up on the Bible every now and then. Reading it for yourself can uncover many facts and wisdoms that you might previously have known. I have read the Bible a couple of times from cover to last page, yet the challenge in reading it is interpreting what is written. I've broken down the Bible, like I do with all my books. I start from the words then move onto the paragraphs and finally I use that to come to an understanding.
Now, the Bible is filled with words that aren’t used in the common English language. To tackle this, I used the Strong’s book which had an interpretation for every word in the bible. When I got access to the Internet, I just looked up the words on Google. This made words like iniquity and reproof much easier to understand.
Now that I had resources to look up words I didn’t understand I was ready to read. As for reading the Bible, I usually read it from Genesis to Revelations but if I get a suggestion of passages to read from the pastor I’ll read those. It’s fun to read up on the historical context of the events that happen in the Bible as well.
Interpretation of what the scripture says is the hardest part. Debates have gone on for centuries about who did what and where this event took place. I approach the Bible from a different way, and that is to seek knowledge and find understanding. I record all my findings in a journal. That way whenever I read something over again, I can compare my thoughts from the past and present. Usually, I read a chapter, and then write what I’ve learned from that chapter.
God is great, all the time, and his word is everlasting. The knowledge found in the Bible is immense and is wise. The words were collected from different times and different people all in hopes on dispersing the wisdom from our Lord. I hope to grow with God and use his teachings on the regular. My goal is to remember verses, so in the heat of a situation, I can pull it out of my head and find peace.
