On January 20, 2017, a sense of fear covered my body. But, I was not fearful of the change of command. I was and am afraid of fellow Americans who believe that "peaceful" protest can change everything. But in reality, these protests are not so "peaceful" but actually very violent and cause more chaos than change. Although, there are peaceful protests being held, they do not hide the fact that there are establishments being vandalized, roads blocked and many acts of violence in response to the Presidential inauguration.
Being around people with liberal views, I have found myself keeping my mouth closed and just letting them speak how they feel. As an independent voter, I have many different views. Some of which are more liberal while others are conservative. But, in my experience I have never been able to speak my mind unless my views match the liberal belief. I do not understand why people want you to understand their views yet make you feel uncomfortable to share your own.
America is suppose to be "The Land of the Free," where people can have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. I have always been taught to not talk about politics in public areas and I see why now as an adult. I understand that there are people who have different views than I do, but I do not tell them that they are a terrible person for believing that way. People wonder why President Trump is now our nation's leader, they do not think that the amount of people who voted for President Trump are actually present in America. Many of these individuals do not vocalize their opinion, but that's why they are classified as the silent majority. But they are nonvocal about their beliefs because people just don't give these individuals enough time to talk about how they feel. If they were to, they would be marginalized for believing that way.
Many liberals would argue that people with conservative views do not have the respect for the liberal belief when many of the conservative people do. Conservatives have held their tongue in many situations and have been made very uncomfortable. People who voted for Trump have been deleted as Facebook friends, some of their friendships have completely ended and are just treated terribly because the friends of the voter have found out they voted for Trump and now they resent them. No one should have to feel this way no matter their political standing.
So, as President Trump begins his presidency people should realize that he is the President and there is nothing you can do about it now. President Trump was the one who got our nation's vote. He has the passion to "Make America Great Again" and we as Americans should have the same passion as he does. We do not need to tear apart America, but we must bring everyone together and understand each other's beliefs and differences. If we do this, we can grow stronger as a nation and be the greatest we can be.
