What is the acceptable age to let someone know it is time for him or her to let go of their childhood stuffed animal or blanket?
Growing up, we all had those precious items that never left our side. From the normal stuffed animal to something more strange like a backpack, it is common to see the average preschool and grade-schooler with an item that they simply cannot be without. Regardless of where their paths take them, their special object comes along.
At one point in a child's life, they begin to shed their safety blanket, letting go of their bear, blanket, or toy; however, for others, this significant moment fails to occur. Then comes the question: how old is too old to be sleeping with a stuffed animal or blanket?
Many people will explain that whatever is most comfortable for the child should be done regarding their sleeping situation. But, if that action is carried out, your child could be a freshman in college and still sleep with their bear. Embarrassing or normal?
This act is quite normal due to the fact that many people miss their home and long for a slight reminder of mom and dad's love. These significant objects mean more than a childish teddy bear or blanket but rather a piece of home no matter the location. College, camp, or a growing youngster's room, a meaningful token of happiness and security is an acceptable necessity for countless people.
I have come to the conclusion that anyone under the age of 25 has the right to sleep with any sentimental something. Some people keep this object close to remind them of home where others like to have something under their check or in their arms.
Whatever method helps to calm and relax someone in a comforting way should be done to allow for the best sleep possible, regardless of the age.
So tonight when your bed is calling your name and your pillow looks beyond comfortable, take a moment to remember what you slept with as a child and remember the joy and comfort it brought you. And hope it brings that same homely coziness to every person of any age sleeping with special to them.
