You always hear stories of teachers who were mean, cruel people. You’d hear stories of them screaming and yelling at their students, but there are so many teachers who are the complete opposite of that. They are kind and caring people who only want the best for their students. They give their all and try everything they can to see their students succeed in life.
During my middle school years I was going through an extremely hard time. I was practically failing math and struggling in other areas too. My 6th grade math teacher helped me when I needed it the most. She made me join her study group during study hall. It was a small group of students who were being tutored in math. Math has never been my strong point but at this point in time I was almost failing. She would make me come every Tuesday and Thursday, where she would play card games with us to boost our multiplication and division skills. She would also help us with our homework and explain it into detail so we could understand it better.
She wouldn’t just help me with my schoolwork; she’d also help me socially. Whenever I felt uncomfortable or was too shy to speak my mind, she would pull me aside and speak to me about what was bothering me. She was a comfort someone I could talk to who would give me advice. She helped me branch out of my comfort zone and push to become a better version of myself. She was someone I could go to who didn’t frighten me and someone who I wasn’t afraid to talk to. She gave me the ability to just be myself without worrying. She helped me in so many ways, academically and socially, and for that I am extremely grateful.
