How To Know You Are An Education Major At Siena Heights
Siena Heights University

At Siena Heights University, we are taught to be the best we can be as future teachers, and how we can be successful. Even though it can be stressful at times, it will be worth it in the end.

1. All of your classes are in either PAC 103 or 104

Where even is the Science building?

2. Every book you own has a picture of a child or a teacher on it

Teacher probs 101

3. The common question

There is no joy in writing 6-8 of these at the end of each semester.

4. There are no more than 20 people in you classes

You are basically a family and know all about each other's personal lives.

5. When people ask what class you are going to, you always say the name of the professor. (ex. Kevin's class, Julie's class)

Who actually knows or needs to know the names of classes when you can use actual names of people?

6. Who else wakes up at 6:30am to "go to school"

Daily schedule:

7-9:30am Observations

9:30-9:45am Coffee break

10-12:15pm College courses

12:30pm Lunch

1:00-2:30pm Observations

3:00-4:00 Nap

4:00-5:30 Write lesson plans

5:50-6:00 Dinner

6:00-8:00 Homework

9:00 Sleep because you need to get in those 8 hours of rest for the next day

7. At the end of the semester, you realize you should be more organized

Puling an all nighter to make resource binders can be one of the more daunting tasks of the semester, but you do an adequate job so you'll get an A.

8. Teaching a lesson plan to 20-year olds that is supposed to be taught to second graders is just too fun

"Children, please be louder and more obnoxious. I do not like not having to give consequences for not being rude in class."

9. Referring to the classes you observe in as "your kids"

Spending sixty hours in a classroom over a semester, you tend to create a bond and relationship with them.

10. Technology for Educators

People who are not education majors may not believe that is a real class. It is a class that allows for patience practice, and an addition to a minor in sarcasm.

11. You are always greeted with a warm welcome from Amy in the office

And of course coffee!

12.Coloring can be assigned as homework

At the beginning of each school year you buy: the 96 pack of crayons with a sharpener, the 50 pack of markers, and 36 pack of colored pencils just to be prepared.

13. Making a biography about yourself can be one of the hardest assignments of the semester

"But I am not an interesting person!"

14. You have a bin of teacher supplies and craft materials in your room, well as many containers of Lysol wipes

Need to stay sanitary.

15. The Day the Crayons Quit

Forever we will feel bad for Peach Crayon.

16. Each semester, you create a total of 20 lesson plans and at least 3 unit plans

Friday and Saturday nights are made for lesson plans and unit plans. Basically, you have no life.

17. Learning logs are cooler than regular notebooks.

Try to find the difference between the two.

18. Creativity is key

Sometimes adding sticker or glitter glue will make a world's difference.

19. Reflection is key

Just take a Kevin class and your life will be changed.

20. "It will all be worth it in the end."

For real though, at the end of the day it will be worth it.

And always remember: "Today is a great day to start making a difference!"

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
