When I came home for the summer, I had so many things I wanted to do that I came home and created a bucket list on my own and with my friends. After accomplishing some of these tasks, I have learned some things that I’ve truly enjoyed, and things I would encourage others to do! On the other hand, there are still a handful of things I have left to do and would like to find myself accomplishing before it's time to head back to school! That being said, here is a list of things to try this summer:
Go on a hike with a beautiful view
I went on my first hike freshman year; since then I’ve only been on one other. I’m not the most outdoorsy person there is, but something about a hike makes me feel at peace. With summer being such a peaceful time of the year spiritually hikes seem like one of the best ways to spend your time! Not to mention, the end result has always seemed worth it to me! (1) you have beautiful view and (2) you get the satisfaction of knowing you made it to the top!
Bar hop/ Happy Hour
After recently turning 21 all of my friends and I have wanted to find out “go to spot” learn the best bars and truly just try different places!! This isn’t to say that we want to drink all the time however with everyone being home for the summer, and officially 21 it’s a good time to hang out and something new to do and adventure with!! To be honest sometimes it seems like fun just to go scope out the place, the people, and the deals!!
Road trip
My absolute favorite!! Now technically I have done this a couple times this summer however they’re so fun!!! Road tripping by yourself leads to time to clear your head, enjoy music you love and see new things; it truly is such a refreshing feeling! However, road tripping with friends is also one of the most exhilarating things out there if you ask me! What is better than being on a long car ride with your best friend(s) jamming out to your favorites (yes including old school songs, i.e. backstreet boys), and talking about any and everything? Nothing!! Road trips are so fun and definitely get me in the summer spirit!
Shop (window shop)
Somehow every summer I promise myself I am not going to shop if I don’t need to, but sometimes that shirt's on a really good sale and it's just to cute to pass up! However, window shopping is also a fun thing to do in the summer time! I love hitting up the mall on a slow/boring day! Even if I’m by myself I may run into people I know, or just see some really cool, cute, or interesting stuff (both people and the clothes)! Also a plus for window shopping is learning what you like, and you’re totally ready for back to school shopping!
Try something new
Put yourself out there! Summer is the best time to try something you’ve never tried before! Trying something new could be as little as a restaurant or the smoothie flavor you order or to as big as sky diving! Trying in the summer gives you more time have time with this addition in your lifestyle (just inc ase you end up loving it)! This summer trying new things has been so much fun, I’ve been trying new foods and trying to learn to skateboard! Everything takes time but you have to start somewhere!!!
Make memories
All year is about making memories, but summer is that time when it seems even more important if you ask me! If you are anything like me and kept a pretty decent relationship with some of your friends from home, you know just how important it is to cherish each moment you have with them because the three to nine-month ration sucks and you miss them a whole freaking lot!! Making memories could be sitting in a bedroom laughing at memes, or going out and doing something extravagant! Just make sure you’re cherishing every moment!
Make new friends
What is better to do than make new friends? New friends don’t have to mean you say by to the old ones, but just that you’re expanding your circle!! New friends usually help me try new things, or experience things I wouldn’t even have imagined! Also it truly is just cool to see how you happen to relate to others!
Read a book
This is one of those things I say every summer; sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn’t! reading a new book for me helps keep me thinking! I like to feel like throughout the summer I did something productive even if that means it was something I enjoyed! Reading books throughout the semester either is too hard or sucks! You have no time to read for pleasure but at the same time hate the things your professors assign! Why not check something out that you’ve been interested once given the time?
Designate time to be off technology
I am definitely not the best at this, but it's something I do want to work on! Something about the summer inspires me to live in the now, and not stress so much about other things! I truly want to try to designate time to what I’m doing even if that’s hanging out with my friends that way I can put all my attention and focus on that!
Bonfire!
Recently my friends and I actually did have a bonfire and it was such a fun time!! It was so fun to just get together and enjoy each others company and share stories, laugh at old memories and try to set up a fire! Simple things can truly be so much fun, and not to lie the s’mores that went along with the bonfire were also pretty delicious as well!
