Congratulations, you've completed another semester at your university! Now it's time for summer: a time of relaxation under the sun, a time for adventures, for concerts, and for friends. But wait, you're a college student, which means you are more than likely more broke than a squirrel. Looks like you have to make bank before you can drive your gas guzzler across the country. Time to be an adult and get a job... Here are some tips to get that summer job!

Always be up front, and introduce yourself with a handshake! You never know if the first person you meet could be your boss. It makes you look very professional.
Make sure you dress appropriately. Don't dress too fancy or too casual when applying for a job. Even if you are simply just walking in to get an application, dress in something casual like jeans or khakis with a nice shirt. When it comes time for an interview, you'll want to be in a nice pair of khakis or dress pants with a button up or classy blouse. Dress to impress!
Now, when you're building your resume, you're going to want to put all of your job experience down. Elaborate on any experience related to the job you're applying for. Also, mention any volunteer work that you've done in the past. Show off your skills, especially the ones you've learned while you've been at school. Talk about skills like teamwork, responsibility, and communication. Give good, credible references. Maybe give the name of an old supervisor or co-worker who you got along with.
During the interview itself, you're going to want to remain calm and collective. Be positive, but be honest. Don't always say what they want to hear, think outside the box. Be memorable with fast, concise answers. I'm not going to lie to you — yes, this is like an oral exam that they try to disguise as a conversation, but remember to watch what you say because you are being interviewed.
Make sure to ask questions about the position and the benefits of the job. Don't be afraid to ask about pay: how and when you get paid. Ask for a job description. Make sure you know exactly what is being asked of you. Ask if there are any benefits, such as whether they have a gym or other services that you could use.
There are plenty of places for seasonal positions, like restaurants, summer camps, and retail. You can make a lot of tips from restaurants. Camps will give you a substantial amount of hours. Some retail establishments allow you to collect commission. There are so many ways to make a little extra cash this summer! Apply wherever you can! Take all the opportunities out there and make some bank!
