Before college, I had absolutely no interest in joining a sorority. When I finally got to college, my whole perspective changed about sororities. The first few weeks of school, up until rush, girls would flaunt their letter shirts and bags everywhere they went. I would look at all the different letters and thought it was Spanish, not knowing what they really meant. Yet, to the girls, those letters seemed to mean everything.
One day, I was talking to my friend; she said she was going through recruitment. I figured I may as well too. Many girls had told me that even if I didn’t join one, I would at least meet a lot of girls going through rush and that it would be a good experience. I figured, yeah, they’re right. I’ll go through and if I don’t join, at least I tried it!
Through the many days of recruitment, I met many awesome girls, and even made some lifetime friends there! I went to all the different sororities, I left some feeling good and others, I knew I wasn’t meant for. Then, I walked through the doors of Kappa Alpha Theta, and I felt a rush of excitement and joy that I hadn’t felt at the other sorority recruitment rooms.
They were lined up in single file on both sides of the door. As the PNM’s walked in, a girl would walk with her to a spot in the room. My first day, my recruiter was so sweet and made me feel so comfortable. Plus, we had so much in common. We talked about "Grey’s Anatomy," food, animals, literally everything. I thought to myself, “Wow, if she is like this, I can’t even imagine how many other girls I’ll get along with!”
I was so excited to see I got asked back. I was like a little kid in a candy store, that’s how excited I was! My second and third day, I got paired with someone that I instantly clicked with. We talked about our families, our lives away from school, and got to know each other on a more personal level. That, to me, was amazing. I didn’t think I could open up to someone I didn’t really know like that. That’s how I knew I was where I belonged.
I got my acceptance letter into Kappa Alpha Theta on the final day and cried my heart out. Every step along the way, every girl I talked to, and every secret we shared, made me realize there was nowhere else I was supposed to be.
Everyone has their home in the Greek world, and I’m so glad I found mine so easily.
Here are some reasons you should “Think Theta”…
The Sisterhood
Kappa Alpha Theta welcomes New Members with open arms and holds on well after they graduate. You literally have 100 girls that want to get to know you and become your family. Plus, we spend time together all the time. The exec knows fun things for us to do together and everyone has a blast on Sisterhoods!
Our Philanthropy
CASA is such an amazing volunteer organization that one day I want to partake in. Kappa Alpha Theta acknowledges CASA through their dignity to help abused and neglected children going through foster homes and doesn’t give up until they find a safe, permanent home.
Our Tagline
We are leading women. Kappa Alpha Theta challenges us every day to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be and strive for personal excellence.
Our Philanthropy Events
Which are probably some of the most fun on campus. We host a 5K in the fall and Sink or Swim in the spring. If you like Battleship and running, you’ll love us. Plus, all of the money goes to CASA.
Formals
It's always a great time on formal night! Take a date and dance all night long with your sisters. And if you get invited to a boy's frat formal, you are 100 percent likely to have sisters with you there! Win-win all around!
Our Diversity
We aren't lookalikes. We don't wear the same things and the same dress size. We don't have the same color hair and skin. We don't like exactly the same things. We are unique.
No matter who you are, what you look like, or where you come from, Kappa Alpha Theta will love you like your own family. There is zero judgement in Theta. Yet, there are 100 amazing sisters. There are a million more reasons I could give you to love Kappa Alpha Theta as much as I do, but you'll just have to rush and see them for yourself.
