Finding a balance between partying and bonding with each of your temps.
It’s that time of the year again: time to take out your temp littles and teach them what you know about sorority life. Now is the time to go on dates with them and pick out that lucky one you think is special enough to uphold the family name. But honestly, if I spend another Monday night at Classic 50’s drinking a sprittle with every single other sorority girl and their temp little on campus, I may go insane.
It can be difficult planning out the perfect first date. Most people go to Classics or Sonic, while others take their littles out on the town for something a bit more interesting than a Sprittle. You don’t want to be basic, but you don’t want to scare her off, either. Basically, you want her to know you’re fun, but you also don’t want to do something that could be frowned upon if she were to tell her parents about it. So how can you express your super fun side while showing her you’re not all about partying?
Your temp little is looking up to you and how you uphold your chapter’s standards. You are an example to her, so if you are the insanely drunk girl everyone talks about and makes fun of, you’re showing her it is okay to go crazy (which it is not). You are also setting a standard about how to portray your chapter in public how much you respect their morals and standards. Yes, it is fun to go out, and everybody has a couple of bad nights. But for goodness sake, don’t scar the poor girl. Don’t make your little take care of you. She isn’t your mom or your babysitter.
If you aren’t into going out and neither is your little, plan something at the chapter house. There is no better way to get comfortable in a new sorority than actually being around those people. A perfect night could just be you, your roommates and your littles, plus Pizza Shuttle. Let them know the in's and out's of being in your sorority and help them feel more comfortable at the house and around the older girls. They will get to bond with girls in their PC and upperclassmen, too, in what could potentially be their new home. Having girl-talk with a close group of girls in their new sorority house is much more fulfilling than talking about classes and work on a hard bench in the September heat.
