Before long, we will be counting down the days before we can get off of this campus and out of this city, but take a second to think about what that means. We will be saying bye to our friends that have become our family for the past four years and the college lifestyle we have grown accustomed to. For me, it will be a bitter-sweet moment as I graduate from the school I love, but embark on an adventure into the real world. Hold onto the last bit of time we have left.
Here are some things I have been trying to live by and keep telling myself in round four at Bradley University:
Try something you have never done before.
Yeah it’s senior year and many of you may be thinking something like, “I only have six months left, why start now?” NO. That means you should start now. Take the time you have left and do the things you told yourself you would do as a soon-to-be college freshman stepping into the big leagues. Take on a new hobby, activity, or club that you won’t be able to do once you leave campus.
Care about your classes.
It’s hard with senioritis in full effect, I get that, believe me, but you have come this far already to not let yourself drop that GPA. You have come too far and wasted spent too much time in the library to let it fall. Hit the books.
Cherish your time.
Take advantage of the time you have left with your friends. Go on those Dairy Queen runs. Have fun with your sorority sisters and the friends you met way back in freshman year. You may stay in contact with them, or you may not because things happen; we move away, we get busy. Learn and care more about their lives on a deeper level in person while you are fortunate to be able to.
Save your money.
I’m an avid shopper as much as the next girl, but those student loans are fast approaching. Those four bucks you spend on a Starbucks’ drink add up. Want to live in the city and be all fancy after graduation? Yeah, I’m about to start some serious analysis if I am actually able to afford it or if I have to live at home and save up some more. Maybe, just maybe, stay in on the weekends a little more.
Be thankful.
We have so much to be thankful for as 20-somethings attending a four-year university. Be thankful for the memories you have made, the people you have met, the opportunities you have been given, and where you are headed.
The real world is fast approaching. Don't let the time you have left pass you by.
