If you were on Purdue's campus on Wednesday, August 26 around 4:30 p.m., you most likely heard the Boilermaker Special parading the sorority house moms around campus (special thanks to the Reamers). Maybe you even got some free candy out of it, considering they were showering everyone and anyone with it (honestly a day-maker). The moms were headed toward the Engineering Mall for their second annual House Mom Fountain Run.
Their overall goal for this event is to encourage not only girls to join formal recruitment, which wraps up on Labor Day weekend, but all students on campus to become involved in Greek life here on campus! The house moms represented Greek life just how it's supposed to be: a community, supporting one another and having fun together.
Sorority girls whose house moms were participating circled the fountain, cheering them on and snapping pictures of the funny moments. The idea for the House Mom Fountain Run came about when Becky Fehsenfeld, house mom of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Janice Brennan, house mom of Chi Omega wanted to find a way to promote Greek life and togetherness within.
House mom Becky of Kappa Kappa Gamma said, "The water was cold, but it was worth it to hear the girls’ laughter and cheers of encouragement. The house moms, as a group, reflect the good will and solidarity in each of their chapters."

Last year, nine moms participated in the fountain run. This year we had 13. let's see if we can continue this tradition next year and gain even more fountain runners to help get the campus excited for fall recruitment! Big thanks to the 13 pictured above. The Greek community really appreciates such a strong support system and such encouragement to help grow their chapters!
