We have all at some point indulged and amused ourselves by reading what's in the cards for us in the upcoming month, week or day. The horoscope that falsely promises us a good or bad week. There are the believers, the scoffers and the hopefuls when it comes to having faith in astronomy determining our week. I'm a firm believer that we're conning ourselves when we let some staff writer at some magazine confirm that I'll find my soulmate Friday and have a successful career by Saturday. Horoscopes are nothing more than a guaranteed let down. If the stars are aligning for anything, it's for us jinxing ourselves by trusting the puff piece on the last page of Cosmo.
It's ridiculous to have the notion that me and everyone else born mid-February to early March will have the same fortune, bad luck and future. I'm no scientist, no astrologist and certainly no fortune teller; but I do have the intelligence to spot a pattern when I see one. Horoscopes never unfold the way someone in a cubicle typed, half asleep on a Monday morning.
Some of you will argue that your horoscope is always right. But really your argument relies on you over thinking and reading too in depth on ordinary details that are nothing more than coincidence. Each of us, individually, regardless of whether you're a Capricorn or a Taurus; can't plausibly have the exact same week.
For those who do religiously check to see what Venus and whatever shooting star determines a horoscope has in store for their week, they usually notice an unnerving pattern. It's never accurate. At worst, it's a self-fueled scam and at best it's holding our breath for an inevitable disappointment. When we predict that something great is going to happen on the 24, it's almost like setting yourself up for a bad day. There's a theory that whatever you expect to happen, the opposite usually occurs and that definitely is applied to one's horoscope.
Besides the saying "better to be surprised, than disappointed" is no myth. If you are destined to find your soulmate this week, you'll find them regardless of whether you check that horoscope. So don't hold your breath every time a cute boy walks in your favorite coffee house and instead let it be a surprise when someone makes eye contact and strikes up conversation. Nothing is predictable and it's more fun that way anyways.
If you really want a heads up about what lays ahead in your week, make a To-Do list. Maybe you'll have a clue about Wednesday night and finally get around to being productive.
