The alarm sounds, we click snooze. It sounds again and we finally decide it is time to open our eyes and roll out of bed. In this ever-changing world, we wake up daily to many things being thrown our way. Whether it is a text message, a notification from Twitter, a snap on Snapchat, a conversation with a teacher, a smile from a neighbor, a cold nose bop with your puppy—there is always a form of communication whirling around us. But, there is a form of communication so deep, so pure, so real, so moving but very little of us ever get to experience it. It requires few words, but many actions.
A little effort goes a long way-- after all, talk is cheap.
But, what is so wrong with this generation? When did there become 5 different before stages of dating? What has turned us from one of the greatest feelings this life has to offer?
Stop, just stop. Set your feet on the ground, these are your roots and in order for you to feel strong, your roots need to be stable. Breathe, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Your sympathetic nervous system is working, thank it for having you ready to fight or run—but you’re all good, you don’t need it. Thank it for having your heart racing, your muscles energized and making you aware of surroundings and instead of fleeing like it wants you too…
Allow yourself to feel. Allow yourself to see what you keep shielding yourself from. Instead of forcefully pushing away the emotions, the thoughts, the feelings—allow them to run through you. Resisting will only make them stronger. This life is short and you’re not promised to wake up tomorrow. I am begging you to allow yourself to let go of what has made you so reactive to allowing someone to see you for you. Allow them to see the deepest parts of you. Life places the best things on the other side of terror, on the other side of the fear that keeps you tossing and turning at night, that is where all the best things lie in this beautiful life.
If I could give you one piece of advice, it would be this; do not let the opinions of other people sway your decision to take a chance and experience love. Don’t be intimidated by others -- at the end of the day, this is your life, this is your decision, this is your experience and you choose the direction it goes.
Pure bliss, it is; every waking moment you walk this Earth you have a best friend, a soul mate, a significant other, a heart walking around outside of your chest.
It starts out awkward as does everything new.
Find someone that will be there for you at 4 a.m. when you’re falling apart and also at 2 p.m. when you love life and they make you love it more.
I hope you find love.
