Home is where your friends are

It's A Hometown Reunion
Taylor DeBello

College is fun, but nothing compares to the feeling you get when you sleep in your own bed or just being in your own house. We all complain how much we wanted to go to college then get there and realized there really is no place like home. We've all made new friends and have traveled new places, but at the end of the day the people we want to tell our days to are the ones that aren't with us. These are our hometown friends. Every college kid (hopefully) loves their college friends and the friends they made while away at school, but nothing compares to your hometown friends.

They're the kids you grew up with and spent every day in the summer with "back in the day". The ones you sat next to from pre-k to the day of graduation. The kids that your parents joke and say, "It seems like yesterday they were just playing with trucks and now they're driving." The ones sat next to you in calculus and you got drunk with Friday nights.

After spending pretty much every waking moment with my hometown friends these past couple weeks, I decided to ask them what their favorite part about coming home is and their favorite part about being all together again.

"Getting shmacked with my friends" -Jessa "Jlino" Casalino, Binghamton University

"Having aux and spreading good vibes obvi" -James Mangan, Yale University

"Seeing my dog and getting hammered in my basement" -Joe Nobile, Sacred Heart University

"I like being home because it gives me the opportunity to get closer to God" -Stevie Nobile, stay at home dad

"I get to reconnect with my favorite Pizzaria, Gappy's. I'm also Latina." -Ella "We Get It You're Latina" Roman, SUNY Cortland

"I love going to a lit hometown party and knowing everyone there" -Tommy Langkafel, SUNY Albany

"I'm always home." -Danny Walsh, DCC

"My favorite part of coming home is relaxing around the fire with friends and family and watching Charlie Brown movies and eating roasted chestnuts and taking selfies with the movie and my chestnuts" -Lee Carmody, New York University

"Yo my names Maak, I go to Westchester. I love Drake and brew." -OVO, Plug, Professional boob Luger, Flip cup fanatic, retired Chanter, aux holder at Reds pops, knows sully.

"Seeing my friends and family. Going to old high school sporting events" -Joe Redendo, Mount Saint Mary College

"Has to be sleeping in MY bed, home cooked meals and being able to shower without flip flops." -Sabrina Volpicella, Iona College

"They won't let me stay at college." -Ivana Korusiakova, University of New Hampshire

"Because tonight's the night" -Shane Devine, SUNY Albany

"To see my friends and hear about how they're doing and to be in Carmel aka home sweet home." -Kirstyn Velazquez, The University of Massachusetts Amherst

"Bingewatch Shameless and not having my roommates judge me." -Tiffany Horn, SUNY Albany

"I come home for the Mahopac Inn and to chase some local tail." -Quinn Willman, Penn State University

"Because Saturday's are for the boys." -Ryan "Sully" Sullivan, Union College

"Seeing how much everyone has grown up and how successful they are." -Gabby Picca, Ithaca College

I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such intelligent and FUNNY people, and they make coming home something to always look forward to.

By the way, Steve Nobile is not really a stay at home dad.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
