15 Things I Will Miss About Penn State Over The Summer

Until next August, I guess I'll just have to deal with missing these things.

15 Things I Will Miss About Penn State Over The Summer

Going home for summer is the most bittersweet part about college. If it weren't for the loads of work your professors threw at you, you'd want to stay at school forever. If you're anything like me and go to school out of state, going home for summer means three months without your friends, your family and your second home. There is no visiting, weekend trips or concerts with your second family.

So here are 15 things we'll all miss about Penn State over the summer:

1. Bagel Crust

Regardless if it's a Monday morning and that's what going to get you through the week, or it's Saturday and you're ready to start daylonging, it's tough to beat those bagels and seeing everyone and their mother in that small little establishment.

2. Daylongs

What else am I going to do with my Saturdays?

3. Daylong brunches

I don't think my mom is going to be to happy when I ask for a mimosa with no orange juice at breakfast this summer...

4. Daylong outfits

Because where else is it acceptable to wear a onesie, big t-shirts with no pants, jerseys or derogatory t-shirts in public? The answer is no where, no where else but Penn State.

5. Natural Light

Let's be real, you can get nice beer from your parents but there is something about a pledge in a dim light frat basement throwing a beer at you that screams I'm home.

6. Terrible mixed drinks

They might make you gag and slightly regret everything you ate that day, but when you walk into your hometown Walmart and see generic brand orange soda, you'll wish you were back in the 16801.

7. Fraternity houses

There is something about these big homes filled with terrible people that makes me never want to leave the streets of Fairmount, Fraternity Row or Locust Lane.

8. Your favorite fraternity

Yes, everyone has one and for the three months you are home you won't be able to roam its halls or steal the food from the kitchen that clearly only brothers can eat. It's a tragedy.

9. Your sisters

If you're in a sorority, this means you're leaving your best 100-200 friends for three months. Your Starbucks or Panera dates are put on halt; seeing how their day was or how their new love is is just that much harder.

10. Your other friends

Those people you made connections with through your floor, mutual friends or maybe just your love for bad choices. Now you'll have to make that bad decision all by yourself and hope the consequences aren't that bad.

11. Gumby's Pokey Sticks

These disgusting, oil and fat filled little pieces of heaven will be deeply missed. Drunk pizza at home is not even a thing.

12. Mclanahan's

Where else can I go to get chasers, pasta, makeup and a tailgating shirt all at one time?

13. The Willard Preacher

There is something about being called out for your bad decisions at 3 p.m. in the afternoon by an old man on campus that makes you feel home.

14. Your best friend

I don't care what anyone says, there is something about school friends that beat home friends by a long shot...they just get it.

15. The sense of community

I can safely say Penn State has a sense of community I feel no where else. If it's walking to class and seeing people I know even though my campus is 45,000 people plus, or roaming fratland and seeing all of my best friends, I'll miss the constant sense of home.

So until next August, I guess I'll just have to deal with missing these things.

But get ready Sylly Week, school isn't even out and I'm already preparing for you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
